Chinese submarines with lasers could take down Starlink satellites: PLA study

China could soon be targeting Starlink-like satellites with advanced submarine laser weapons, according to a recent naval study.

According to a study by People’s Liberation Army (PLA) scientists, Chinese submarines equipped with lasers could potentially disable SpaceX’s Starlink satellites if China’s security were threatened.

The study details a submarine with a megawatt-class solid-state laser weapon installed in its midsection, capable of remaining submerged while raising a retractable “optoelectronic mast” to fire at satellites before diving back down, the South China Morning Post reported.

The Chinese are not messing around.

It's incredible how quickly military technology advances.

That is usually either one of the main drivers of #technology or one of the first adopters.

Sad but how to kill people more efficiently is what we seek to do.

He summed up humanity well.

Over the years, what we see is that, much of the evolution was for one society to be superior to another and if the use of force was necessary, they would be ready for it.

The Cold War is a good example of this.

Yep. We are seeing things coming from so many different directions it is hard to picture where this will all end up.

I'm just afraid that, with these leaders today, they won't do anything more absurd than there is already with so much war in the world and that this won't escalate even further.

The future will be very fascinating as it is possible to see so many things being done and developing. A full-scale war would end all of this.

Is it because of their prioritizing their local content?

At this point, they place a lot of value on what they have. Without having to depend on other countries.

Its technology makes it develop and stand out on the world stage.
