I think it will increase engagement. I use desktop for my interaction but I would make some comments and do some reading from mobile if I could. My eyes arent what they use to so it would be an improvement for me.

Agreed. I dont think it is the end all, but a nice step in the right direction. It is sorely needed and I am glad the team is bringing it out.

100%. As soon as people get a notification on their mobile about their friend posting his new FB picture, they go and check it.
Similarly, people would want to be alerted for new posts, comments, upvotes etc. It will keep them on track even on the go.
