I don't think Brazil is an expensive country. It could be better if the tax burden were lower. The people who pay the most tax are the poor, and these taxes don't go back to the population in an effective way.
Taxes never do. Believing otherwise is showing a complete failure to learn from history.
It can be reasonable if you don't live in the big cities but it's been increasing country-wide in the last years, mainly due to increasing costs of food

It is not unique in Brazil. A lot of it is due to groupthink and the fact people are conditioned to be obedient.
I call these people NPCs. If you played some RPGs you know what it means. They can't think for themselves and just do what they've been programmed to do.
