Lionsgate And Runway Partner On AI Video Training

in LeoFinance2 months ago

That did not take long.

Does anyone still believe that AI will not take over movie creation? If so, this ought to dispel any remaining doubts.

We have a success studio partnering with an AI company, Runway. This is the first of its kind collaboration which is likely to kick off a wide range of use cases across the industry.

In other words, Hollywood, as we know it, is done.

For now, we will focus upon the issue at hand and leave some of the longer term projections for another time.

Lionsgate and Runway Partnership

Before we start, let us look at who Lionsgate is.

This is from Groq:

Lionsgate is a leading global entertainment company that is primarily known for producing and distributing films, television shows, and digital content. The company was founded in 1997 and is headquartered in Santa Monica, California.

Lionsgate is one of the major film studios in Hollywood, alongside companies like Warner Bros., Universal, and Disney. The studio is responsible for producing and distributing a wide range of films, including:

  1. Blockbuster franchises: Lionsgate is known for producing successful franchises like "The Hunger Games," "Twilight," and "John Wick."
  2. Independent films: The studio has a strong reputation for producing critically acclaimed independent films, such as "Crash," "Brokeback Mountain," and "The Fault in Our Stars."
  3. Horror movies: Lionsgate is known for its horror movie division, which has produced successful films like "Saw," "The Conjuring," and "The Expendables."
  4. Television shows: Lionsgate produces and distributes a range of television shows, including "Mad men," "Nashville," and "Orange is the New Black."

Some of the notable films produced by Lionsgate include:

  • "The Hunger Games" series
  • "Twilight" series
  • "John Wick" series
  • "Saw" series
  • "The Expendables" series
  • "Crash"
  • "Brokeback Mountain"
  • "The Fault in Our Stars"

There are some noticeable names on the list.

Thus, we are dealing with a pretty big player in the entertainment world.

It is no on collaboration to develop a suite of AI tools that can be used for filmmaking.

SANTA MONICA, Calif. & NEW YORK--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Global content leader Lionsgate (NYSE: LGF.A, LGF.B) and leading applied AI research company Runway today announced a first-of-its-kind partnership centered around Runway’s creation and training of a new AI model, customized to Lionsgate’s proprietary portfolio of film and television content. Exclusively designed to help Lionsgate Studios, its filmmakers, directors and other creative talent augment their work, the model generates cinematic video that can be further iterated using Runway’s suite of controllable tools. The partnership is the first collaboration between Runway and a Hollywood studio.

The idea is to use Lionsgate's library to train the AI system. The tools will be developed to enhance what is being created.

Here is where the problem resides. Once these models start expanding, they do not stop in capabilities. The studio will naturally want more powerful tools, which the model will deliver over time.

It is one of those situations where it starts slowly then builds.

Generative AI - A New Form of Compute

Can you imagine any business, including movie studios, operating without computers?

We know that in the last few decades, this would be absurd.

However, that is exactly what a future without generative AI is like. The idea of not having it integrated into most aspects of a business, especially a creative one, will be asinine by the end of the decade.

Unfortunately, this is spreading throughout many industries. The impact will be in the jobs area. We already saw how an Indian producer is no longer using humans for much in his films. The decision was to simply us AI for the effects.

If we are looking at the AI skyscraper, this is 100 stories tall. Present technology puts us on the second level.

What do things look like when we are at the 40th floor?

Runway is gaining access to a lot of content. This will help to improve its models in the future.

We are looking at a process that, once it kicks off, it only accelerates.

I wonder if there's any industry that the use of AI hasn't been introduced. At the rate that AI is spreading, I just hope we all will be safe in the future.

I dont know what the state is on an industry by industry basis.

Dont forget, AI is nothing new. So Excel adding up the columns and rows is AI. So we have been at it a while. The difference is we are seeing acceleration.

And the acceleration is speeding up by the day.

This was inevitable. But since they are a big name and one of the first to do this partnership, I wonder how big their backlash is. A lot of people will push back on it early on. But once a lot more companies do it, then it will be normalized.

I dont think anyone will care outside those directly affected.

It is going to happen across the industry. Do you car that much of the vehicle you drive was built by machines?

So many jobs will be lost... :O
