Over the last few days we focused upon how the Hive Backed Dollar could become a store of value. This is done via the use cases that are developed.
There are 4 main areas we chose to focus upon. They are:
All of these, when combine will give HBD a strong store of value. This is something that most stablecoin providers are not focusing upon. Instead of trying to develop use cases, their sole focus is on financialization. While this is one piece of the puzzle, this approach misses a great deal.
In this article we will upon the third one listed: Payment System.
Source
Lightning Network
Anything it can do, we can do.
Lightning Network is getting a lot of attention. This is the second layer solution that is tied to Bitcoin. It allows for fast, low-cost transactions using the largest cryptocurrency.
Now, we see that Lightning Network is actually a layer 2 solution for Hive. Any user on Hive can easily access this network with his or her wallet. Thus, each Hive account is basically a Lightning wallet.
This project was funded by the Decentralized Hive Fund which used community resources to get the development done. The application allows anyone to send Satoshi over Lightning, where they are converted to HBD or HIVE and submitted to one's wallet. The reverse also can take place where one is able to send HBD or HIVE as payment across the Network.
The advantage to the @v4v.app system is that one does not require an active Lightening node to receive payments. On Hive, payments are available even if we are logged off. This is not the case with Lightning. Hence, one uses the v4v node to receive the Satoshi which are then converted and forwarded to the individual Hive account.
We also see how this expands the reach of Hive. When HBD is sent using this, it effectively can access anything Lightning is coupled with. If a company will accept payment using this Network, people on Hive can pay with HBD.
Of course, any expansion that takes place with Lightning will only enhance the use cases for HBD.
Pay With HBD Anywhere Visa Is Accepted
As development takes place, we see things starting to come together.
How would you like to use HBD for payment anywhere Visa is accepted? Do you think this would enhance the potential of this stablecoin?
Even in these early stages, we can see how this is possible.
Through The Bitcoin Company, we now can use our Hive based assets, coupled with Lightning Network, to get a prepaid Visa card.
Suddenly, we see an ocean of possibilities. Visa is reportedly accepted by 44 million merchants around the world. Even though there is a limit to what can be put on the card, we are seeing how HBD can be further utilized.
Once again, simply tapping into the Lightning Network makes this possible.
It also greatly enhances the value of the Hive ecosystem.
Reward And Spend
Much of the cryptocurrency world is still the same. The most common way people get a hold of cryptocurrency is to buy it. This is still the main access point. Of course, with the emergence of Decentralized Finance (DeFi), people are now getting returns for the cryptocurrency they stake.
However, most still enter it via the purchase route.
One challenge with this is that it is exclusionary. Only those with resources are able to play. Hive is different. Through one's activity, an individual is able to get rewarded in a number of different coins and tokens. This will ultimately lead to being able to accumulate HBD for spending purposes.
This moves us to another level altogether. Suddenly, cryptocurrency is on par with our native currency whereby it can be earned. This is how most acquire the money in their bank account. It is through one's efforts that compensation is provided.
Being rewarded on Hive follows the same path. One takes some action and, if it is rewarded, gets the payout 7 days later. Once this occurs, the person is free to do with the money as he or she sees fit.
Over the years we saw faucets, giveaways, and a host of other means to try to get cryptocurrency, especially Bitcoin, into people's hands. With Hive, none of that is an issue. We have HBD and HP being issued daily out of the reward pool. At the same time, there are a host of layer 2 tokens that people receive.
When we combine all this, we can see a system where people can get rewarded and then spend the money on goods or services they need.
Get rewarded on Hive and pay to get your nails done or a round of drinks at the pub.
Piggybacking The Work Of Others
In these early stages, Hive has the opportunity to piggyback off the work of others. There are a large numbers of developers working on the Lightning Network. Since we are now able to tap into it, any progress they make only enhances the reach of Hive.
We also see how this all works without an exchange. The system, behind the scenes handles it all.
Ultimately, Hive's base layer provides a better payment system than what Lightning is doing. However, until applications are built that take advantage of this, Hive can access the work of others. This actually expands Hive's reach within the cryptocurrency world.
To bring people into the ecosystem, we have to reach further out.
HBD could potentially be used at 44 million locations throughout the world.
This is one of the ways we can build HBD into a powerful stablecoin.
Let us know in the comment section below what your thoughts are regarding these two applications.

.
We need more liquidity pools. To do that, we need more HBD. Of course, to do that, we need more use cases.
Pick where we start. There are a lot of options.
That is why we just have to keep moving in many different directions at a time.
One of the first tasks is to get the LP on Polycub filled. That needs a great deal more liquidity and then we will see the same thing on BSC with Cubfinance.
Posted Using LeoFinance Beta
.
The question is whether or not there is enough HBD out there to satisfy liquidity if there are so many pools. I would think that there would be an HBD shortage if that were to occur.
Posted Using LeoFinance Beta
Then we have to raise the APR and make more.
We just have to do it in a manner that doesn't break the peg cause there is too much HBD.
Posted Using LeoFinance Beta
I don't think raising the APR more will do much because the amount of HBD we can have is dependent on the market cap of Hive and the debt limit.
Posted Using LeoFinance Beta
ok. I over simplified, or maybe just got to the good part too soon- the part where we need more HBD so those of us who have it - get more.
Posted Using LeoFinance Beta
Most exciting thing I have read in a while. 🤩
It opens so much possibilities. Paying with the Visa card HBD for services or things.
This is remarkable to say the least. What an opportunity!
Posted Using LeoFinance Beta
It is a good starting point. Maybe not the most efficient system going but there is potential. We are now reaching out into the wider world and bridging HBD to what is out there.
A first step to say the least.
Posted Using LeoFinance Beta
And what a step it is 🤩
Posted Using LeoFinance Beta
My thoughts exactly. It's far more just a proof of concept at this point than a viable payment method, for me anyway, since 15 steps is a lot of work to load a card with enough money to buy a modest pizza, but the fact that it's a functioning option is very exciting!
Although, I may try the BTC option next month to try to pay a bill or two and see how it works for me. This is a major step toward realizing my dream of never having to use fiat ever again.
That is crazy and my mind still needs to adjust itself to this opportunity. Having the HBD stablecoin in the midst of Hive blockchain and making it a payment instrument by bridging the lightning network is as smart as it can be. Bye bye volatility and hop on using the HBD stablecoin in the read world!
Posted Using LeoFinance Beta
I would not just to the conclusion that volatility is going anywhere yet. There is still a very small float. Even Bitcoin, which a bazillion times larger market cap, see volatility. I know it is different but the premise of size applies.
We are making progress. That is all we can ask. What it means is we need to have more nodes set up (which Brian is going to work on), along with people being aware.
The idea is to keep building the wall, one brick at a time.
Posted Using LeoFinance Beta
Somewhat off topic, but have you checked in with Splinterlands lately? In one of the last two or three town hall meetings Matt discussed making the in-game currency (DEC/Dark Energy Crystals) a stable coin with Splinterlands assets being the backing. I presume he means everything, i.e., the licenses for validator nodes as well as cards, land, and whatever else comes along. Some of us have been playfully musing the idea of Dark Energy becoming the world's stable coin. :D
I feel the same, this basically is a route to disconnect myself from fiat completely. When they say get out of fiat and get onto crypto this is basically it.
Posted Using LeoFinance Beta
We're slowly getting somewhere... I like the way you put it: Lightning -2nd layer for Hive. :)
Yeah. While not exact in the technical aspect, it is a mechanism to use on top of Hive to move stuff around. Obviously this wouldnt likely be something people do Hive to Hive but it does start to show the potential.
We are slowly reaching further out.
Posted Using LeoFinance Beta
Having a clean link between Hive and real world spending is an amazing form of progress in my opinion. This is awesome
Posted Using LeoFinance Beta
It appears we are moving in that direction.
I will be interested to see posts from people who used it from start to finish.
Throw HBD into v4v.app, and load up the card, then use it as a store.
That would be a great post to read.
Posted Using LeoFinance Beta
Small steps are leading to big accomplishments here
This will really make a lot of sense if stable coin like HBD if we can get it listed to more exchanges.
Nothing to do with exchanges. This system doesnt even tough the exchanges.
Ultimately we need more liquidity, that is part of the growing process. However, for now, this works without exchanges or liquidity pools.
Posted Using LeoFinance Beta
That's right we Can start from this spot.
This is so awesome! We need to build more of such bridges to Hive and see our network expanding like wildfire. Crazy stuff by @brianoflondon. :')
Posted Using LeoFinance Beta
It is an impressive development that he built. We have to like that it was community funded, another non-VC success story.
Ultimately, the further out we see the tentacles of Hive go, the more opportunity there is to pull people in.

This looks great but how well does this work in reality. How liquid are the exchange markets? How do you hit the correct amount of satoshis? If you go over, how does the returning of the change happen and in which currency?
Being able to spend HBD directly through a credit/debit card sounds amazing. If there are no substantial conversion fees, and it goes around the hoops a regular uses has to jump through (sell HBD for Hive, send Hive to an exchange, sell it for e.g. USDT, sell the USDT for your national currency), it will be a huge game changer, for sure.
I wouldnt say it is direct since it is using Satoshi. So it is HBD to Satoshi to fiat on the Visa card.
However, it is likely a lot less than what you explained.
It will be interesting to see what the fees would be on the entire prices. Is it 3%? 5%?
Posted Using LeoFinance Beta
Also, who pays the fees?
Visa and mastercard charge lots of fees but they are paid by the merchant.
So I don't care what I pay with because I am not paying for it.
Posted Using LeoFinance Beta
This sounds quite nice and I appreciate all the hard work behind it!
I have few thoughts/questions spinning in my head, as I've been testing/using the Visa prepaid card provided by Binance for some time:
How hard would it be to include HIVE in their spending list? Currently the list of crypto currencies that could be spent directly is: BNB, BUSD, BTC, USDT, SXP, ETH, EUR, ADA, DOT, LAZIO, PORTO, SANTOS
How hard would it be to add HBD to the tokens supported by Binance? Hive has been added more than two years ago. There are a couple of exchanges supporting HBD already, like ProBIT & Bittrex, from thee top of my head.
Something quite important and attractive too - the Binance Visa card offers no fees and a nice cashback, depending on the amount of spot BNB - for instance, holding a 30 day running average of 1 BNB gives 2% cashback, that's not bad at all.
Also, as far as I understand, using this new method, I have to install two new apps on my phone, to get the card from the bitcoin company and I have to have Lightning wallet as well? Generally I avoid having the 2FA app and the crypro wallets/exchanges apps on the same phone for security reasons ;)
I hope that info is useful, I believe we could make it better here, hopefully in the near future.

!ALIVE
Always hard to get listed on exchanges. They usually want payment to do that. We will have to keep pushing to get the word out there.
Right now, I imagine stablecoins are a bit of a third rail to exchanges, especially Binance who supposedly took a bit hit on UST.
Either way, this is a step forward even if it isnt the end all and be all.
Posted Using LeoFinance Beta
I suppose if more people query them with those questions, they might reconsider?
Reading your feedback I think I'm going to sit soon and white them a proper email with those requests :)
I'll hope for the best.
It would be nice to have more independent competitive channels for spending HIVE & HBD directly, competition drives progress, isn't it? :D

Also, a separate question - I think HBD isn't a "classical" stable coin as it is not backed by real USD, or gold, or bonds, options, etc., right? I recall it was about USD 0.40 when HIVE was about USD 0.10.

What about a HBD crypto card?
Posted using LeoFinance Mobile
I have no idea how to get that going. It would be a great thing to do but I wonder what it takes to get that done.
Probably have to arrange that with Visa but maybe not.
Posted Using LeoFinance Beta
This could be a good way to get the BTC community into accepting HBD as a truly decentralized algorithmic stablcecoin especially after the void left by UST.
!PIZZA
Posted Using LeoFinance Beta
Well it is converting the HBD to Satoshi and then using Lightning so I am not sure how much that affects the BTC community at this moment.
We are simply tapping into what they built.
Posted Using LeoFinance Beta
Ooo that's promising, I did get the Coinbase card which uses USD Coin and gives me 4% rewards in Stellar Lumens (you can choose different reward options), but that still entails taking earnings from here and converting them twice in order to put funds on the card when I want to use it to buy cat food or whatever. If I could do that straight with HBD and save those fees, that would not only be more convenient but also less of my earnings getting blown on those fees, so I wouldn't have to use as much when I need to buy something with it and being able to keep more in my HBD savings instead. I try to save as much as I can but I do need to use some to survive right now.
I still wish Coinbase would deal with Hive/HBD!
I can imagine a separate bank card with our Hive Dollars (HBD) balances available to spend. I would gladly use it anywhere. Especially in grocery stores. It would make our lives so much easier. Just imagine paying for various foods and drinks with Hive Dollars (HBD), including bread, butter and salami.
Have a nice day and have a nice weekend.
All the best. Greetings and much love from Hungary.
A Hive Bank card. Now we're getting where I want to go.
Posted Using LeoFinance Beta
I really hope that, one day, such a word or phrase as "potential" will disappear from our lexicon, when we talk about the Hive and everything connected with it, this should, one day, become the norm of things, into something that is not subject to doubt and criticism.
Posted Using LeoFinance Beta
Yeah that is true but it is where we are now. A lot of this entire industry, let alone the blockchain, is truly potential. In my view, the building and developing is what is important.
As that grows, more potential is presented. Then it is up to users what they take advantage of.
Posted Using LeoFinance Beta
I am surprised how massively people trust various, fraudulent pyramid schemes, but at the same time, keep aloof from real earnings in the Hive.
Posted Using LeoFinance Beta
I didn't know the lightning network would open so much doors. Still Hive and HBD need to be discovered on the network for it to gain traction. But still, this is a huge move forward. Maybe even the biggest move this year...
Posted Using LeoFinance Beta
It allows Hive to utilize the advancement on that network. This is a positive.
Posted Using LeoFinance Beta
A lot to take in from this post I have to calmly go and read up get a prepaid Visa card, ever since Xapo canceled its Bitcoin debit card service to South Africa, I have been looking for other options without success.
If spending HBD on VISA is possible in SA, then this is Epic!
Posted Using LeoFinance Beta
No sure of the particulars other than what the two authors of the linked posts wrote about them.
However, since the Visa card can be loaded with Satoshi, it could end up being paid for in HBD.
Posted Using LeoFinance Beta
Thats a great vision. I would like to hook up my HBD to my visa card. that would be awesome
Posted Using LeoFinance Beta
I think if hive is more popular this will also bring more use case about hive ,when people no amazing opportunity on hive Blockchain, this will strengthen the hbd , people don't know hive like that, some only knows it as coins that we can but and keep, when we can actually gain it for free and by staking it ,when people know more about hive ,I thi you this will also strengthen the use case of it ,and thia is where promoting hive comes in , persuasive advertising is needed,we should do more than just sharing post on Twitter or Facebook, there should be another means of promoting it ,I think from there people will know hbd and the power it's old , people don't know hbd like usdt ,and also the dump UST ,let find a way in which hbd can be know outside hive
We just have to keep moving things forward and building. There isnt hype around Hive, just builders.
That is the difference. Hence we provide options for people.
Posted Using LeoFinance Beta
My view is that Hivesigner and also our other apps need to promote HBD for internal payments. This way it would help Hive get some sort of the attention. Which is what needs to be viewed by the crypto market. I feel that with Hive accepted or HBD accepted here campaigns need to be done. Let's see if those type of efforts pay off in upcoming years.
I agree. It has to start at home. The idea of promoting HBD internally for payments is crucial.
I think it starts with the idea of making people buy a Hive account using HBD, not HIVE.
Posted Using LeoFinance Beta
See how development changes things very quickly as this opens things up. I think this is exciting as I was reading about the Lightning Network yesterday and was stunned.
Posted Using LeoFinance Beta
The more development that is out there, the more that can be combined together.
It is how things accelerate.

Initially I was somewhat annoyed with all of the efforts to peg HBD, and I still would call it.. Stable-ish, but I was wrong and I really love where HBD is and where it is heading.
It is nice to see that piggy backing you speak of and I know exactly what you mean. Now it will be good to go through some down times as well for better testing.
Thanks for promoting HBD and explaining it in segments, I've enjoyed your HBD series.

That is because we are not taught how money or the banking system really works. We believe what we read online or see on CNBC or what the econ professors spew. None of that is applicable. We have a much different system truly running the show as compared to what we are taught.
HBD has an important role to play. There is no arguing we are at the point of stabl-ish as opposed to stable at this point. There are valid reasons for that.
listing on few exchanges so the price on Coingecko is volatile. The internal exchange is more stable
the amount of tokens out there. We are still dealing with a very small float that can lead to volatility.
These are things to be worked upon. For now, use cases and discussion to have it get into people's head to use HBD is the path to follow. Developers are building stuff. Hopefully a lot are going to implement HBD.

I'd like to point out the flip side. Connecting HIVE/HBD to Lightning Network gives us a bridge to payment systems using BTC. It opens up possibilities for the Hive community because Bitcoin, and Lightning by extension, is so dominant in the crypto market.
The flip side is that v4v.app also benefits Lightning because @BrianofLondon has potentially dropped thousands of Hive users on the Lightning network. If we're talking network effect, then a huge network just plopped onto Lightning.
You mention Lightning is a 2nd layer solution for Hive. It's also a second layer solution for BTC. Potentially, with more bridges, Lightning could be a second layer for other blockchains. The network effect might make Lightning the go-to option for all payment rails.
So, I think Lightning has as much, if not more, to gain from this experiment than Hive. I have to congratulate BrianofLondon for this achievement as he was only trying to find a way to help podcasters earn rewards for their work, which is where value 4 value, v4v comes from.
With the liquidity, network traffic that Hive brings to Lightning, we may see those credit card options coming sooner.
Posted Using LeoFinance Beta
It's possible but I think we still need a lot more HBD in circulation and I don't think just having indirect payment is enough. We need more actual stores to take HBD as payment and it's fine to piggyback off others. However, that means that it will troublesome if they suddenly decided to cut HBD off from the system.
Posted Using LeoFinance Beta
I have yet learned another thing or two today.😌💆

it is obvious we need more liquidity pool for this to be possible, maybe in the next fork this might be done because hbd have a lot of potential and can achieve great things
Posted Using LeoFinance Beta
Just thinking about it is very exciting and I sure love to use it. But then we face the issue that HBD is limited and so its liquidity. These concerns need to be solved first, perhaps more use cases to follow and then more developments and then maybe some more need to be done towards its mass adoption.

The day that some companies start to use this will be the day hive starts going up as a whole :)

I currently have a goal to save up 1,000,000 HBD by stacking $50 HBD per month and tapping into the 20% interest rate.
If I was able to buy groceries using my HBD, I would probably change my whole HIVE aspect.
The "big problem" with spending the crypto I earn is that it is so hard to turn to fiat, if I could turn it to milk, and the kids could turn it to snacks at 7-11... they would be very interested.
