Hive: Account Control Equals True Asset Ownership

in LeoFinance3 years ago

There is a lot happening simultaneously. The future of the Internet is starting to be laid now. Many entities are jockeying for position.

We are beginning the process of moving towards the Metaverse. This is getting a lot of attention with the likes of Facebook making it a priority. Unfortunately, people do not realize how dangerous that is.

As technology advances, the stakes become even higher. This is true with what we see taking place presently.

People are soon going to realize how important it all is.

50,000 Accounts-No Closure

Hive is quickly becoming the solution to many potential problems that are going to arise. The situation with Facebook is already showing what we are going to confront. As they roll out their new wallet, it is vital to keep this concept in mind.

Last week, almost 50,000 people signed up for new accounts on Hive. As shown in the Weekly Hive Stats Report by @penguinpablo, we see the massive growth that is taking place.

image.png

Naturally, most of this was due to the success of @splinterlands. That game is starting to really lead the charge in the #Play2Earn market.

While people were signing up to get involved in that game, they do not realize the gift they received.

Hive operates a decentralized account management system. The basics of operating an account are done at the blockchain level. This is in the base layer, hence, in control of no individual or single entity.

This is something completely overlooked by the masses at the moment.

With a Hive account, there is no closure or banning. This is going to be paramount as we start to see pieces of the Metaverse developing.

Facebook Being Facebook

We know social media companies are very willing to close or ban accounts. This is something that is getting some publicity yet people are not connecting the dots.

Facebook is making a huge leap into the Metaverse. Mark Zuckerberg recently announced that it was going to transition, over the next 5 years, to a Metaverse company. The challenge is Facebook goes against the main premise of this concept.

At this moment, it is the leading VR company. Facebook is pushing the Oculus. It is determined to be the gateway along with the account management system. This is evident in their distribution of Oculus, even at a loss. People need to wake up to this fact.

In the social media realm, one's account is important. Getting banned can have very bad effects, especially if the account is used for business. Nevertheless, the ability to erase years of one's digital life is startling. In this era, it is like you never existed.

Unfortunately, this is nothing compared to what we will see going forward. In a short period of time, this will have a financial component that cannot be ignored.

Here is something that many are accustomed to seeing:

facebookoculus.png

We can already see how this is elevated. Having the Facebook account closed down means that not only is the social application off limits, the Oculus headset is now basically useless. This is a device that people paid good money for and Facebook, on a whim, can deny use of it.

It is evident there is now some monetary impact upon the user. Of course, as they say, "you ain't seen nothing yet".

facebookoculus.png
Source

How about them apples?

The closing of the account eliminated everything in the library. That means anything that was acquired, any asset, magically disappeared.

Imagine what you would feel like if everything in your Hive account was taken from you. How would you feel?

Of course, this cannot happen without someone accessing your keys. With Facebook, however, it is just everyday business. Banning accounts is nothing new.

Protecting Your Assets

Anyone who opts for this future is not going to be protecting his or her assets.

We are all familiar with the "Log in using" followed by the options of Facebook, Twitter, or Google. The problem is all of these centralized organization have the ability to cut one off from his or her assets. They showed they will do this without warning and for any (or no) reason. Either way, each user is completely at their mercy.

Hive Solves This

Hopefully most are beginning to realize how important account ownership really is. If an entity can close down your account, you do not own it. Therefore, anything in said account is their property also. You access is only with their consent.

This puts people in an extremely vulnerable position.

Facebook is bring its Novi Wallet to market. The company claims it will offer cheap and accessible payments. What it failed to tell everyone is that it will offer this only with their permission. As we can see, if Facebook wants to deny any transaction, it only needs to close the account.

Sadly, not only is the access to the system gone, everything in the wallet is history too.

Is this a world that anyone wants to live in?

For all the talk by the tech titans about decentralized social media, the reality is they will not give up control. Even if there is some form of this, the account access will still be through the centralized entity. Logging in using a Twitter account, no matter what the platform, means you operate only with the blessing of that company. If they deem it that you should not exist digitally, poof, you are gone.

With Web3, this means your assets also vanish into the digital wind.

Last week, almost 50,000 accounts were opened that cannot be closed. All those people are now in a world where, whatever assets they acquire, access to them cannot be denied. With Hive's account management system, the owner of the keys is the one who owns the assets.

People are going to realize how valuable an option this is.

This is a concept that has to penetrate the entire industry. Account management is the most crucial aspect to Web3 and, ultimately, the Metaverse. Anything that uses a centralized log in system is going to put people at risk.

With Hive, each person have full account control and that means true asset ownership.

Sort:

Hive literally contains 90% of my digital wealth, Hell, Not including things I own physically It accounts for 90% of my actual wealth. don't have savings with banks cause of garbage interest rates, Got very little in terms of money, The only asset worth anything meaningful at resale is my computer, aircon and coffee machine. xD

We need hivebook xD

!PIZZA

That's very nice! I only got invovled in crypto earlier this year but I've been moving more and more of my wealth to crypto and mainly Hive.

Posted Using LeoFinance Beta

Yeah that would be cool. Hasnt been pursued yet so far as I know. There is a couple of "Instagram" projects.

My kids have an Oculus and begrudgingly I had to open a Facebook account for my eldest. Paradoxically for Facebook, what these bannings mean is that my son will never ever post anything on that account (he has no interest in doing so) because he knows if you don't post, you probably can't break a community standard!

Unless they start compelling you to post every few months because otherwise you're not a good member of the "community"!

I never put anything past them. They can change things to hurt the users.

We know they are going to do all they can to maintain control.

Posted Using LeoFinance Beta

I had to create a facebook account for a similar reason too. I used all fake info and never posted

Posted Using LeoFinance Beta

People use facebook and twitter (and occasionally youtube) for examples of what can go wrong from a personal and financial perspective when a person gets banned or shadowbanned by a platform, but they are far from the only examples.

Lots of creators, especially Black people or LGBT people on twitch lose access to their accounts due to organized mass reporting of content that isn't in violation of TOS by hate groups. But these are all handled primarily by algorithms rather than humans, so it's very effective and disrupts income quite a bit. Poof, an entire job gone, in an instant. That's just one example of this kind of vulnerability. Again, web3 solves this.

Last week we heard about Only Fans changing things up to prohibit certain types of content that basically built the platform. And again, an entire income stream is lost for many people with very little notice. Here (as is often the case in the adult web), catering to payment processors was cited as a major part of the issue. Many years ago I did freelance web design and marketing work for various adult websites. Before the tube sites existed. And I remember that catering to visa and mastercard was always a problem faced back then. Last year pornhub scraped millions of users and stopped taking credit card payments for a while. Again, web3 and blockchain solves this.

I'm really looking forward to projects like SPK and to some degree projects like THETA to see where things go next. Because having fast, rich media is going to be essential in the growth of blockchain adoption. Once people realized the power, existing structures will crumble fast. Let's not give those structures time to shore up their base and manipulate customer opinion on what the metaverse is.

This is the future. I always appreciate your outlook on the issue.

That is common. They hit accounts without explanation. Right now there are income streams being interrupted potentially.

With Facebook wallet, there is holdings that disappear.

I don't follow the news on social media too closely but I heard about the Only Fans things. That's very messed up.

Posted Using LeoFinance Beta

I am smiling to myself because you have — for such a long time — been talking about how this is a long term game. Seems like those chickens are increasingly coming home to roost!

More and more people will discover that Hive (and surrounding communities) are the best option and I'm guessing Splinterlands is just the first small wave heading this way... over the next 5-10 years.

The Hive ecosystem is pretty much the only place I have shared/posted anything of significance in the past four years and change... and I also no longer have a savings account at any bank, nor have I added anything to my Fidelity Investments account since... mid-2017? Something like that.

I imagine Hive will always be somewhat "niche," but even a niche with twenty million active users (going out on a limb and comparing Splinterlands to MTG which has 35 million users after 26+ years) would send our native token skywards... not to mention all the current (and future) sidechain projects.

We're pretty well positioned, here...

Alas you are right. I have been beating the same drum for years. It is a long game and we are seeing some of the fruits. This is still early though, the growth rate is rather small compared to where it will be.

A few million active users will change this place. Ultimately, I think we see tens of millions on here. There is a lot coming that will jump up the numbers.

Posted Using LeoFinance Beta

If 50,000 new accounts signed up, are we seeing a corresponding spike in activity on Hive?

Or are these just investment accounts where people want to stash some money and do a bit of curation by bot?

The 50K new accounts were through @splinterlands so I presume they are players.

There was a change in by them in what goes to the blockchain and what is on their centralized servers. So yes activity is increasing but not as much as before. They had to plan on scaling.

Posted Using LeoFinance Beta

I put all of my faith in KeyChain and this is a nice reminder to write some stuff down just in case.

Also, holy shit. We were sub 5k accounts prior to the Splinterlands explosion? Talk about being ultra-early...

Posted Using LeoFinance Beta

Not sure they are even showing the users properly. @splinterlands stated they hit 100K users in a day but we still sit between 11K-13K.

Posted Using LeoFinance Beta

It’s awesome to earn hundreds or thousands of dollars a day on Splinterlands… just holding cards and staking SPS.

For those who are into it, that is terrific. We are gong to see more opportunities like that. I like what EXODE is doing.

Posted Using LeoFinance Beta

I’m not into it at all… I just bought a bunch of cards in 2018 and forgot about them… now I get hundreds of Free SPS tokens from staking them.

Posted via proofofbrain.io

Amazing how that goes. Get into something, even on the fringe, and suddenly it morphs into more.

What a great world cryptocurrency is.

Posted Using LeoFinance Beta

Yeah, Splinterlands is probably my best Crypto investment ever.

let's goooooo ;)

Hive is the answer to all shit in Google daughters

Hive does a great roll in protecting people. Although some stuff is absolute BS. But I'm sure some could say the same about the items I post too.

I like your stuff but I get your point. I guess we can't completely escape from the BS but we're much better than anything else I've seen so far

Posted Using LeoFinance Beta

I don't have a shitty algorithm that puts crap in my face because some bloke thinks it's trending. If I don't like it, I can down vote it and get rid of it. Can't do that on FB. Yes you can block people but FB just keeps putting crap in my face.

Also, tracking my browser history is scary. I was looking at Perth Mint coins and then every second add is Perth Mint and gold.

Hive Enables ownership of your digital assets like crypto and your content. The best gateway to web 3.0 with limitless potential.

Facebook owned metaverse is probably the worse thing that could happen.

Who will want to own something without really owning it?

You mean, like real estate?

If you don't pay "your taxes" on your real estate, guess what happens?

There's a difference between a government and a private company. Imagine facebook was raising taxes and making the law too.

It's the same as the difference between the mafia and a private company; engaging with the private company is voluntary, but the mafia will hurt you if you don't go along with their demands.

The gang of thugs (i.e. the 'government') that demands your property tax will hurt you or take your property away if you don't go along with their demands. That doesn't make their demands "right" or acceptable, but you've been deluded into accepting it.

In a similar fashion, billions will go along with Fakebook and accept the pseudo-ownership of 'their property.'

That's the answer to your question "Who will want to own something without really owning it?" People just go along to get along.

No, there is a difference. The Mafia doesn't give you a choice. With the government you vote, and you can even decide to go into congress if you want to.

That said I don't like big government. But making Facebook replace it is like deciding to go for a dictatorship, it's the worst outcome.

If you think government gives you any more of a choice than the mafia, you have a lot to learn! :O

I live in a mafia state. You either have relationships or you don't.

Yea, big tech is completely distorting the true media of the metaverse. It's up to us to get it back

I was always ok with Facebook. In fact I used to go to their campus, liked the people there and even liked Zuck. But I lost all my advertising priveledges on Facebook with no recourse for adding someone in a foreign country to my ads account. There was no customer service just an automated appeals bot which denied my case. I don't believe It was that it was a foreign person it was just that it was unusual behaviour in my ads account. I'm literally banned for life from advertising on Facebook and that is a big part of my freelance gigs. So now I hate Facebook and I think with good reason. Been trying for over a year to find a real human to help me, and remember above I mentioned that I know a lot of people that work there. This is a really big problem for me and I'm sure countless others. Hive is a definitely.

Posted Using LeoFinance Beta

That story isnt unique unfortunately. Many found the same thing to be true.

There is a reason so many hate Facebook.

Posted Using LeoFinance Beta

It is quite interesting that a gaming app like Splinterlands may be able to attract so many people to the hive platform, which would mean a very good demand if these users use their accounts also to publish content.

What is interesting is that this might just be the beginning. They are at 7,000 per day now. Will it go higher?

Posted Using LeoFinance Beta

This is the future. I always appreciate your outlook on the issue.😍

Glad I didn’t spend the $400 bucks for the oculus. Many will learn the hard way by losing all their digital assets.

Posted Using LeoFinance Beta

I fear many will. Right now they arent likely worth much but as markets develop for digital assets, people might realize the pain of being behind Facebook's wall.

Posted Using LeoFinance Beta

Very interesting your post, I'm new to the subject and still hadn't noticed more than half of what you listed.
I had realized the importance of decentralization only on the financial issue. However, our "ownership" goes far beyond money in the digital world...

It truly does. The digital world is going to require an identity for us.

This is why owning it is going to be vital.

Posted Using LeoFinance Beta

wow crazy growth !

I gave up facebook and other social media along time ago but it still sucks to read about people getting banned and things like that.

#hivesolvesthis

Posted Using LeoFinance Beta

You are one of the few. Most are still on there.

Either way, we have to keep working on a viable alternative for them.

Hive accounts are going to be very valuable in terms of their use case down the road. We will see how this will allow people to own their accounts and assets.

Posted Using LeoFinance Beta

It is really dishearting to see that so many people have so much faith in Facebook. I myself still have my account. I only use it to talk to family members and some friends. To many scammers saying they want to be friends and all they really want is access to a persons money.

It is fine to use if you understand what it is all about. The same with any of them. Realize the pitfalls and use it for your benefit.

But make no mistake, Facebook is not your friend.

Posted Using LeoFinance Beta

Hive has an insane growth and it will continue to grow further!

Hopefully there will be a day when this is not considered insane growth.

Posted Using LeoFinance Beta

@taskmaster4450le that is the main strength of the decentralized social media blockchain it gives users complete ownership of there account including every thing, that's why when more and more people realize the advantages of decentralized social media platform like hive over the other social media platforms like Facebook and Twitter they will definitely prefer to use hive blockchain

We need to keep pushing forward because we know the centralized entities like Facebook and Twitter will move ahead.

This is the only hope to keep them from taking over.

Posted Using LeoFinance Beta

@taskmaster4450le don't worry nobody able to take over a truly decentralized blockchain we already prove it in the past
When Justin Sun, binance and huobi tried to take over steem

I am also 100% agreed with you we should try over best to develop, secure and promote hive blockchain

I hope all those Splinterlands newbies realise they have much more than just a game account. They can be social too.

Posted Using LeoFinance Beta

Yea, I hope so too. I think Splinterlands and other apps built on Hive have a very important role on bringing traffic to us

Posted Using LeoFinance Beta

Doubtful most do. We need more of the "Sign in with Hive".

But hopefully a few do research further what a Hive account can do.

We need to keep promoting all the different applications.

Posted Using LeoFinance Beta

I agree. It would be nice if we could have all the great apps built on Hive redirecting people to the communities here.

Posted Using LeoFinance Beta

The dapps should make them aware of the options. We need a strong Hive brand, but it's tricky with such a generic name.

people playing splinterlands needs to know what else they got with registration. not sure how to do this.

That is why it is up to us to keep mentioning some of the other applications that are available.

Posted Using LeoFinance Beta

Wow that is a big issue if you lose any linked asset for being banned for some random centralized entities. We need to push more decentralized entities.

Posted Using LeoFinance Beta

This is exciting to see as this could play out exactly as some predicted. Apps like splinterlands could open up Hive by attracting the masses. They just need to find Hive now and possibly splinterlands should be highlighting to every account owner what they have actually uncovered. Surely a mass info drop to every splinterland owner is required as this should highlight how to get involved in Hive and take a look.

Posted Using LeoFinance Beta

We need about 5 @splinaterlands on here. For now, they are carrying the mantle. We will see what else comes out.

A couple of things being worked on could achieve a great deal of success.
