Levels of Adequate

Feeling happy?

Well, I am not sure about that, but the weekend is here and despite the challenges to set it up, last night - just as the intermission was ending - I was able to use the MetaMask browser to connect a wallet to Splinterlands and then purchase two white list positions for the Runicore card.

My new work lanyard ^
I have been trying to get one for a while.

I like rainbows.

It is exciting.

Though to be honest, I am a little too tired right at this particular moment to get too excited over anything at all and perhaps, I should just lay down and have a nap instead. As usual it seems, there is a lot going on that it is competing for attention currently, and I am trying to give all the attention they deserve for whatever reason that might be.

At work at the moment, with one week left in the quarter, I am doing my best to complete the quarterly tasks that qualify me for a bonus, which while not a massive amount, is also a nice little sum that will make life a little easier. Recently, we had to change our kitchen design slightly, which added 1500€ to the total, but payable soon - which we hadn't budgeted for at all. These kinds of costs arise in the renovations, but this late in the game, they are rare.

I was thinking about this recently, where unexpected costs arise or, things happen that immediately change our needs, like illness. Then, no matter what we were doing previously, we have to completely change our direction and behaviors. Over the years, I have seen it happen to many people where they were powering up and then, life happens and they power it all down.

But, I think that part of financial life is understanding that these things happen and then trying to be prepared for when they do. For one thing at least, multiple revenue streams can help, because often, that is the "point of attack" where income fails. And often, making the "unexpected" costs, far more expected.

Over the last years, I have been trying my darndest to increase revenue streams, because I have spent so many years in my life relying on thin trickles, that could end at any time. When it came to work, I essentially had to take everything that came my way, regardless of whether it was suitable for my skillset or not, which meant, not always getting the best results, or the results the job deserved. Incompetence in skilled positions frustrates me a bit, but what frustrates me the most, is my own incompetence in skilled jobs I am meant to be performing.

But, as a skills trainer, what has to be recognized for most positions is that we aren't going to be highly skilled at all areas equally. But, for any particular job, all areas of the job have to be covered at least adequately, and it is best to have a few areas of highly-skilled specialties.

And, if one is looking to build alternative income streams, it is also useful to build highly skilled specialties in areas that can provide additional work. A lot of people have hobbies that they love, but most hobbies don't come with earning potential, they are for entertainment purposes only. There is nothing wrong with this at all, until there is the need to have that supplementary income.

And this is something that I have consistently seen on Hive over the years, as when I talk about financial areas, there is often someone who says, "money isn't everything", yet watching those same people over those years - they often discover that at times,

It is.

And when they need and don't have access, their attitude changes, their positivity wanes and often become bitter and resentful. And also, it is common that they lament their actions of the past, regretting some of what they have done and said. It can be quite sad, when people realize that the position they find themselves in was perhaps avoidable, if they had been better prepared and willing to change their behavior a little.

We all have regrets in this life and due to hindsight, it is generally pretty easy to image what could have been, if we had done something different. Though, counterfactuals aren't always useful, as we can never know for sure what outcomes would have resulted, as nothing is certain.

So, all we can do is look ahead and hope that our next period of life is going to be one where we do the right things that get us to where we want to go. However, our default programming is strong and most will find, that even though we start off with the best intentions to change, it is very easy to fall back into old ways and often, continue down the familiar path, even when we recognize that what we are doing wrong, is the same thing we were doing wrong before.

This time will be different.

Probably not.

The past repeats for a reason, even though the future is unknown.

I think we are all from the same cloth lol. I tend to skip onto things not necessarily Metamask but have been known to check how my Hive is doing along with my other cryptos rom time to time. I think it shows how important this is really as it could easily offer a revenue stream that is significant.

It is funny how ingrained it becomes in our lives - for better and worse.

Congrats for Runi, I didn't grab any this time. So many things are happening in the Splinterlans space that it is hard to keep up with them.

Too many things I feel. Too many releases of new things, not enough movement on old.

I'm terrified of Jamie quitting teaching as that's the most secure and lucrative revenue stream.

But currently CRT and exam marking has me at only a little less than working part time, so .. maybe he could do same. He would like to garden and do mechanics but having your own business makes my blood run cold.

I do keep HIVE in savings for emergencies so I don't HAVE to power down in emergency.

It's kinda unnerving having currency in different kittys and streams but maybe because I haven't done it for a time.

Love the lanyard.

Yeah - I get this. Since I am Jamie in my relationship - I think it is a good justification for my wife to do whatever I want ;D

but having your own business makes my blood run cold.

It is hard work - far more hours for most than a normal job, often for less money.

In my experience, it becomes a lifestyle of sorts and habitual - like brushing teeth. It will get easier and you will likely expand further and enjoy it more :)

Love the lanyard.

Me too! :D

We are not perfect so what is required to occur is to try to put in our best on things we practice the more for more better results and experience.

No one is perfect, but we can all learn and improve at something :)

I definitely can't keep up with the Splinterlands world, which is a little sad since I was big into it when they started out as steemmonsters. Kicking myself of course for selling most of my cards, even though at the time it was for a profit... because yup, sometimes money at least feels like everything :)

I was really hoping to go to the Splinterlands fest, even if just to finally meet up with my long time friend, the awesome @clayboyn, but alas a trip from NY to Vegas is not in the cards this year. Too busy- pulled in so many directions at the moment it's a little overwhelming. 2024 will be travel time for us, though I'm sure I'll get a few road trips in 2023 :)

Where are you from?

Do you still play much?

Too busy- pulled in so many directions at the moment it's a little overwhelming.

It would have been nice to meet up with some of the people, but I couldn't even get to HF, and that was a two hour flight (I live in Finland). life eh? :D

Hopefully there will be more travel in the not too distant future though, as I miss it a lot.

I did a few quests some months back, but not really. Once upon a time I won a couple big diamond tournaments with the alpha and beta decks :) But I've heard that bots are an issue now. And it has been developed so much since then that it would take time I don't have to become any good at it again lol. Not too mention expensive.
Yep, life.

The expense is insane! I have to rent a lot to be able to compete, as I have almost no alphas, betas, untamed, promos.... :D

I don't feel happy because the weather has suddenly been as rainy and cold as in winter here this week. So to speak, this much sharp mid season made me depressed :)

Funny how the werther makes such an impact on us. I wonder if 20,000 years ago we were as emotionally affected by it.

Congratulations on the Runi cards. I think improving your income streams is a good idea. After all, the pandemic has shown how fragile relying on a single stream is a bad idea. So preparing for that situation is not bad and I honestly would not mind retiring early if I had enough streams of income.

I wish some of the streams were a little more passive - and a little larger! :D

The pandemic should have highlighted to everyone to start exploring alternatives - yet for the most part at the mainstream level - they have gone in the opposite direction.
