In a bit of a different morning, I am starting the work day from a café. Though as pleasant as it sounds, it is not all it is cracked up to be, with a lot of noise and distraction. But it can't be helped, as I am here waiting for my wife to finish an appointment that I needed to drive her to and from. Still, a change of scenery brings new thoughts - have you noticed that? I think this supports the adage of,
A change is as good as a holiday
It forces a the brain into a new perspective and seems to unlock different thoughts, or at least, different perspectives on old thoughts.
"Old thoughts"
I have a lot of those. But, I do tend to develop them, even if only slightly, as I learn and experience more and get a better understanding of the world in which I live.* Although we live and share the same planet,
Your world is different to mine.
Even neighbors or family members don't live in the same world as me, and no one lives in the same world as you either, because whatever we experience, how we experience is going to be individual and unique to the observer, to me, to you. It is like the temperature or spicy food, hot for one is mild for another, except it is pushed across every conceivable experience and affects us, whether we are aware of the effects or not - like how we rush decisions and often judge negatively when we are hungry or tired.
It also means that even if we have exactly the same conditions in reality, the outcomes are going to differ and perhaps significantly, because who we are matters, so how we see and handle the conditions will vary. While obviously on average, averages are going to apply, so those in better conditions than others will on average get better results through environmental opportunity, even if all things we re equal, inequality would soon set in.
Over the years on Hive, I have often been admonished for my views on investing, where people have said that "not every one can" and in many respects, this is true. Except in one thing where we are all equal - we all have an equal chance to best utilize our available resources, whatever those may be. Some people seem to have a lot but use it badly, while some others seem to be able to take very little and MacGyver it into much more. But, unless winning the lottery, it is requires a process starting with small steps and increasingly getting larger.
In some way, it is like the growth of a tree, where the sprout from the seed will root and eventually, there will be the first leaf which reaches out to get touched by the sunlight, encouraging more leaves to grow. A change is as good as a holiday - and small changes can lead to large journies.
The greatest oak, began as an acorn.
Are these sayings pithy? Are they meaningless?
Yes.
And no. Because while they are easy off the tongue and on the ear, there is truth in them, if willing to explore the depth of information that lays below the surface. And they are actionable, if willing to take that information and turn it into a view or belief that can be applied to change behavior. But, who has the time for that? People are too busy to learn about what affects them, especially because they focus on how they feel about being affected.
We want better than we have, but when we are spending our time on how we feel about our conditions, we aren't working out what is causing them, influencing them, what we can control and actually change in our behavior, to affect our outcomes. Instead, we can know we are suffering, but be largely oblivious to the root causes. Or, know what is causing and exactly how to act to improve conditions, but - not act.
Knowing, is not doing.
Do you know how to play golf or surf? It is easy, just read a book about technique and away you go. The more you read, the better you will be and if you read enough, you are going to be a professional in no time.
That is not how it works, is it?
Yet, that is how many of us seem to believe, because that is how we act. "I know what I should be doing" - but my position is, if you aren't doing what you know you should, you don't know it well enough. And this isn't about the amount of information about the topic at hand, it is about the information that takes that knowledge and turns it into movement. It is like the information that running is good for you, but not doing it. However, with the additional information of a hungry lion closing in, you will run - even if the effort is futile.
For us to act, we need to have the information required that motivates us to, where "motive" literally means moving. We need a reason to move, especially when what we need to do is uncomfortable, unfamiliar, painful, or horrible. Often, this reason is the "what's in it for me?" position, which can include acting for other people, even if it means just to feel good by helping.
And this is where I will turn it back to the investment side of things, as most people want more wealth, but they don't necessarily have the right information on how to accumulate it, given the resources they have. Outcomes will vary and there is no one-size-fits-all solution, so we have to take matters into our own hands and discover for ourselves what works, where modelling from others often points us in the right direction.
But still, we need to have a compelling reason to act, to change our behaviors from what has got us to this point today, to what will get us to where we want to be tomorrow. This is difficult, because the actions required often come with risk of loss and time, take energy and resources and are largely uncomfortable, because of the opportunity cost of movement. so, if our motivation isn't strong enough to change the direction of our motion, we are destined to stay on the same path, which many, isn't leading us to where we want to be, to experience what we want to experience, or feel the way we want to feel.
And looking back at that acorn sprouting the first leaf, we could see it as the journey to the branching of the tree filled with the millions of leaves, running a natural cycle of economic seasons, weathering the storms and, producing more acorns of possibility - and therefore, more chance at producing leaves of gold.

I have noticed that. In fact a change in certain elements of the surroundings brings the new thoughts let alone the whole scenery.
That's true. Our current state of mind affects everything in the surrounding. It is said that there are not four seasons but five. The fifth season is inside us and it affects our perspective about the four seasons outside us.
Wowww! A couple of verses came to my mind a few hours ago with the same theme.
Lol. I thought of composing a poem based on it with the title "THE WISHES OF A LAZY MAN" 😉
When I deliver trainings, I stand up, even for remote deliveries. It changes my entire attitude, way I speak and dynamics. It is far more effective - if there is an adjustable desk of course :)
That is a nice way to look at it with the fifth season :)
Ah - great title!
Right! Our positions and gestures do affect our feelings and emotions
A very thoughtful post and all so true. We all have the ability to adapt and learn new skills but how many really do? Many of us have had to adapt on Hive as things are never constant and those are the ones who perform better than others.

Hive is a good example of the need to adapt and the unwillingness of some to follow through on it. There are always opportunities here, but none of them are going to always be here, or be as big of an opportunity Have to learn to earn, and the lessons are never over :)
I totally agree.. The ability to learn, unlearn and relearn is a major factor in any type of success..
What kind of motivation should you give?
It's very clear from the encouragement you give to all of us that if the opportunity arises, grab it immediately!
Everyone has the opportunity and it is the first step that is difficult. Theory can be mastered, but when not applied, it becomes useless.
Experience is very decisive, it is flight hours that make the movement steady. When the first step is not taken, then anyone remains always in place.
The analogy of the oak tree you gave is very touching, Mr @tarazkp.
This is the case and what many are doing these days, is hoarding. They collect information they will never use, ignore the opportunities that would change their lives.
OMG!! Totally loved it. You're right we do need information but we need to put that into practice, we need to risk ourselves to do the things that we are afraid of doing because one of them may bring the result we want for our future.
I love this
Because everything, or most things, are in our hands, we have the power to change our future with every action we take in our present.
Thanks for your post ♥️
I wonder what the world would look like under the conditions where everyone was operating at full potential. Impossible I know, but it would be interesting to see what would happen and how far we would move.
The world would be completely different, if right now we have advanced so much with so little, imagine if everyone contributed to the change, it would be completely amazing.
A very insightful post.
Something similar to easier said than done.
I saw somewhere that you get to love someone by loving.
You get to be something by doing
I honestly think that most times the problem lies with the fact that a lot of people can't determine what they want.
Another thing might just be laziness on the part of a lot of people.
I like the post... Great one.
I have missed deep posts like this
Yes and I think that this inability to identify, is part of the laziness. The other day I was talking to a colleague who is having a book published and I congratulated her a lot, because so many talk about writing a book, very few actually write one.
we do have the ability to o adapt but not many do I might be one of them as we get lazy
I am lazy too! At least with a lot of things when it comes to improving what I should but don't want to... :D
I have lazy lifestyle I think it's time to change that
The message is quite clear in your article the reason for moving or to give a boost to change your direction. Without it, you stay in the same seat with a status quo effect!
The status quo is comfortable - even when it is uncomfortable. People seem to value what they know and fear what they don't so much, that they choose to stay in pain, rather than work for a cure.
I have been doing hybrid work since the pandemic. I have noticed that I concentrate on work much better while being at office. However, it wasn't so a few weeks ago due to the buzz around me :)
I find the same and wish I could get into the office more than I currently do. There are also the benefits of when there is some work downtime, of having coffee with friends, whilst also building network :)
By far we all live in our world's. It is interesting how two world's merge with total understanding, I always prefer doing the best not to jeopardize mine.
Have a lovely day.
I wonder if sometimes we protect "our world" so much, that we fail to let people into it or, travel into theirs?
Time has taught us how to protect our world from everyone and the best is to allow only a select few through ours as we pass through theirs.
Going into anyone's world means you are ready to take or baggage that comes with it...
Dear @tarazkp!
I hope that anxiety about reality and worry about the future do not damage your health! Perhaps you are suffering for the happiness and future of your family!
We can achieve spiritual peace by entrusting all of our futures to God!
Everything damages health - sitting and doing nothing is one of the most damaging :)
Dear my brother @tarazkp!
Perhaps you do not depend on God because you are very strong!
However, I am a weak person who has to rely on God!
I will pray to God every day for you and my salvation!🙏
Salvation from what?
As you well know, all living things, including humans, die. To avoid eternal death and judgment that will come upon us, we must pray to God for salvation!

Gold leaf? i remember a cigarette and also called john player.
Preparing my second pasrt of my wedding, on my native country, and working on the go, this was feeling different. I can still do it, maybe even better than home, as I need to focus and finish it as soon as possible, in order to take care of other urgent matters.
Strange, but doable.
Forcing my brain to adopt a different strategy. Yes.
Other than that, it will feel good to get home and go back into my routine.
First off, I was hit by your illustration about two people going through the very same situation under same conditions and all things being equal, yet they'll definitely react or take it in different ways.
Individuality!We are all different indeed.
But then! I have so many times, and perhaps even right now found myself in conditions where I know what exactly I need to do and how to go about doing them and the risk of not doing then and yet I find myself not doing enough as I should. But it's a bit difficult to agree and my inability to implement my purpose stems from limitations in my knowledge of its importance because then it would be that you are equating knowledge to zeal..
Nevertheless I will push myself to obtain more information and see of it'll translate to motion.
Was a deep piece @tarazkp and it got me thinking a lot.
I think there are a lot of people who tend to be lazy or they fear change. It reminds me of how my parents didn't really adapt very well to things like cell phones and it took time for me to convince and teach them about it. Now they use it every single day.

Very true, we don't all have access to the same resources, but we can still make the most out of what we have. For me personally, money does not motivate me beyond meeting my basic daily needs and saving a little for the future.
Time is the biggest currency of all to me, and little things like swimming with my daughters and sharing some laughs with friends are virtually priceless.
