It is the company sports day today in Finland, but unfortunately I am unable to attend and am instead, working... That sucks a bit, but at least it is pretty quiet, since most of the people I work with are out of the office and, those in the US are just starting to wake up. It is a half-day thing, plus a dinner, so it was busier earlier in the day as we are coming up to the end of quarter, which always kicks people into gear, as there are bonuses attached. And the bonuses can be pretty good for some people.
For me, they are okay enough that it will beat the inflation rate, for a while. At some point though, it is not going to do that, as prices are rising fast across many sectors simultaneously, but the wage increases are years behind for most people. This means that while the percentage for the bonus will beat the inflation rate this year, the bonus is dependent on the salary base, so if that isn't increases, there is an overall fall in value over time and this fall is going to affect everyone.
People end up buying less because they have less to spend and the first things to get cut back on, tend to be the ones where local people are owning, working and producing. For example, I am pretty sure that in the not too distant future, my own business is going to start losing work, because training is something that is the first to go to "save money" - even if it is a flawed approach that often leads to more loss and issues.
If the economic conditions are handled badly, this is going to have massive ramifications across the entire globe and it is going to reverberate for years, possibly a decade or more. And, I think what we can probably all agree on is, the chances of this being mishandled is very high.
Personally, I am not looking forward to it, because no matter what I have done, I don't feel I am ready, but I guess that like everyone, more belt tightening will be on the horizon - so best prepare for it now. Just like training in a gym for a sport, preparing for economic "activity" is vital to perform well on the field of play, but I at least, don't think I have ever formally been shown how to use use all the equipment.
There are so many financial tools and techniques out there, each with their unique set of pros and cons, that it is impossible to understand them all, let alone participate and invest into them all. It really is no wonder that so many people stay away from crypto, especially if they are investors - because the understanding needs to be built and that takes time, as well as skills that don't necessarily get flexed during traditional investing, like understanding the technology. I know for me, a lot of the traditional investing possibilities go over my head, so I stay away from them.
I feel like if I just had some more time on my hands, I would have prepared better, but the fact is, I have had decades, and still have failed. Why is that? I guess it is that "avoid the uncomfortable" that we have inherently in us and that if we don't overcome, we end up getting more uncomfortable. It is pretty annoying.
I am doing better overall of course, as this isn't a new revelation to me, but it is still frustrating to feel financially ill, when I know that I have had the opportunity to be far healthier. But, it is not too late to get into shape - Well, *some kind of shape that is healthier than today.
Working for bonuses is not going to make most people wealthy, unless their position is of the kind that the salary itself makes them wealthy, even without the bonus. However, so much effort gets put into chasing what doesn't return that much value, whilst opportunities that could return compounded benefits, get left aside because there is no time.
At some point I guess, we will learn either way whether we have done enough or, neglected to do what we should have done. What I am hoping though is that if given the chance, over the next few years I will be able to get my daughter a better start in handling her own finances than I was given. At least, someone should benefit from the training.

I read an article about social class and how rare it is for a person to get promoted as such into the next social class. So working class rarely make the grade to middle class and middle class rarely make it to upper class. It was a pretty depressing article really but the older I get I believe this is true. There's inflation, interest rates and a whole list of tools that keep us in our social classes. There are the anomalies. Crypto millionaires and its why crypto appeals to many of us. Tech Start Ups but for the 99.8% we stay in our class. Some laugh!
Sometimes I wonder if the anomalies can hold us back - where people in the lower classes feel that they can win the lottery too, because someone has to, right?
It is incredibly hard to change "class" for many reasons, including that we often make similar life decisions to our parents too - after all, we learned from somewhere.
What I have seen at my workplace that working for bonuses makes people egoist, evil-minded, quarelling with co-workers...
it depends on the structure of the bonus.
@tarazkp
Sir, workers like us wait a year and get a salary bonus. And we look to the boss to give us a bonus along with our salary and we can benefit from this. After receiving the bonus, ordinary working people feel that the feeling of their life is that they want more joy in the new festival. Maybe even if the money is small, the blessing comes from the mind. So my knowledge is that every boss at the end of this year will give at least some bonus to every working person. Thank you very much sir, I agree with your writing. Let the goal of our life become beautiful.
What do you use your bonus for?
I believe in some cases thoughts like this simply means there's no need to feel relaxed or assume you've achieve enough but still create room for more goals and opportunities to chase to gain more as well because even the rich still looks for money.
Life doesn't end until the chasing something stops :)
One of my cousin was a country head of an MNC company. It was a data analysis and research company.
He was pretty scared in 2019; during corona, he felt he would lose his job as the company was firing hundreds of people.
I told him you are skilled enough, and a research company will never shut down its business. LOL.
Last week, the company shut down its business. I feel like nothing is secure. No job is safe enough for the future.
Both crypto and traditional markets go down when there is a pandemic or a war between two countries.
Just wanted to ask, if you could do something else(in terms of career), and there was a surety of your success, what would you try?
Yeah, no one is safe, especially these days. So many companies are folding in so many industries due to supply chain mismanagement at the global level....
I have always thought I'd be an okay psychologist, but after the stroke, I don't think I am able to pay enough attention.
The photo really got me
I think with the economic chaos looming people like us will actually come out ok as we have been busy doing not so normal things like Hive. People haven't woken up to how screwed they really are and many have no alternative incomes or safety nets.

Really,we do spent much time on things that will just carry us on a day to day, things that will just pay our bills, neglected the fact that they are things out there that when we focus and invest our tine in it, it will bring us a great fortune, and crypto is one of them, but our day to day work won't allowed us to focus and learn the basic,on which we need to start investing, and investing in the right token or right project, this past few month that i have been active on HIVE And some online crypto class, for a fact i can really tell you that i have gain relevant knowledge that i beed to start investing in the crypto space.
You could have impressed the Finns with your knowledge on playing the perfect cover drive.
Haha but seriously, what does a sports day in Finland entail?

While bonuses are nice, I'd rather not work longer than I have to. Learning financial education and investing is a great place to start. The entire tax code is complex and I am sure there is a lot of stuff you need to teach.

If you're anything like me, it wouldn't matter if you have covered every conceivable thing you can think of and several imagined worst edge cases that would require planets aligning across multiple galaxies to have a vague possibility of being realised, you will still not feel ready and even when common sense prevails there will always be that little whisper of what if something completely unexpected that you somehow have absolutely no preparation for and can't use one of the several million other plans as contingency happens XD
In fairness to you, me and everyone else in the same position, we actually need to be ready to get it before we get it. And it takes some of us a long time to get it. But yeh like you said better late than never? XD
Hope small is smarter than I was (that wouldn't be hard) and gets it sooner. I have a very financially literate mother who tried extremely hard to impress that financial literacy onto me and it just did not happen (part of it was probably the dyscalculia and there was also a very immature part that just didn't see the point, and that's what I think the problem is with my kids).
