It's been a slow process because it's not something that happens overnight. It all begins with the mind, so it started with "institutions of higher learning";first the faculty and administrators, then the student body, then the next generation of students, then the following generation of students. This is why our societies are as they are today.
Reversing this also starts with the mind, and that's not an overnight proces, either.
As they say in computer science, "Garbage in, garbage out."
