Yes, the proof of work blockchains like BTC (and ETH until they complete their upgrade) are huge energy suckers and create tons of carbon emissions. Proof of stake blockchains and the like use exorbitantly less energy, its like a internal combustion car compared to an electric car. Crypto has work to do to reduce carbon footprint for sure.
