You don't have to know how your car works.

It seems weird now, but a couple of generations ago lots of people did now how their cars worked. As recently as 1970 when the Ford Maverick was introduced ($1,995 for a new car), it came equipped with a tool box and tools with which most people could do most of their own repairs. An 8th grade teacher of mine showed us his car’s toolbox with pride.

Sort:

Yeah that was back when cars broke down way more often and people had to know those things out of necessity.
Those days are gone and the field of mechanics is more complex and corporate.
They don't want you to know how to be self-sustainable by design.
