Activating a community can be hard. It therefore requires patience and encouragement of the lead on a regular basis especially during down times to help the participants know that the project is not dead.

A leader must have patience because building or activating a community is hard and takes time. Encouragement should come from the leaders too in order to boost the team members.
True. If the founders aren't constantly reassuring the community during down times they'll lose hope. Encouragement as well as communication is a key part of activating your community
