I sincerely dislike disparaging my country, Nigeria, but at this point, I am extremely irritated by everything that appears to be going on here. Things are constantly out of control, and no one seems to know how to steer us in the right direction, but our leaders all seem to be clear on how to deal with things of little or no consequence, such as cryptocurrencies.
The government imposed a ban on cryptocurrencies in February of last year, stating that financial institutions have no right to get close to them, and exchange accounts were enthusiastically frozen and even closed because, according to them, cryptocurrencies are tools of rebellion against the legacy financial system and the authorities.
At the time, it didn't seem like such a bad move because many other governments were taking similar draconian measures as the cryptocurrency narrative was twisted to make it appear as if it supported finance terrorism, enabled kidnapping and money-laundering, and promoted obscurity.
This has proven to be very incorrect as terrorists and kidnappers may have struggled to move large amounts of cryptocurrency in the past due to the concentration of liquidity on formal exchanges, but this seems to have changed as liquidity pours into the black market, where they can freely transact outside the radar of law enforcement.
The level of insecurity appears to be rising on a daily basis, affecting the day-to-day lives of ordinary Nigerians. I've always been optimistic and dismissed reports of insecurity in my surroundings as exaggerated until it hit very close to home yesterday.
As an ardent football supporter and fan of the Super Eagles (national team), I and my friends thought we would be doing our country a favour by attending the all-important 2022 World Cup Qualifiers Play-offs at the national stadium in Abuja, which is a two-hour drive away.
Because the roads are not without kidnappings, we chose to take the safer train route to Abuja to watch the game, only to learn on the news that the train, too, had been attacked and the route had been temporarily suspended. This immediately meant that we would have to cancel the trip, which disappointed me because I had been looking forward to it.
This seems all too familiar these days, as my once-beloved nation continues to disappoint me and break my spirits, as well as my dreams and aspirations. Incorrect government policies are constantly becoming a bane to our very existence, and things that should be prioritized, such as security, are ignored, while things with little or no consequence are given top priority.
We had a technology shut down last year, ostensibly to stop the actions of kidnappers and terrorists in the country. I couldn't help but wonder how someone could believe that cutting off the network connection that could help catch criminals was the problem and that it should be completely shut down.
Clearly, the heads of those in power are not in the right place because they are constantly preoccupied with trivial matters while paying no attention to the important ones.
There would be an election next year, and while I don't completely believe in the credibility of an election, I think it's a great place to start in making the much-needed 180-degree turn the country so desperately needs.
Even though I know there is no place like home, I am beginning to consider leaving the country. All of these thoughts make me think of a line from Warsan Shire's poem "Leaving Home".
You only leave home
When home won't let you stay
I think I'm starting to hate it here; I just hope it gets better before it gets unbearably bad.

It’s a very terribly saddening situation. Peoples mental health in this country are in shambles. Do you know how much we have gotten used to bad news? It’s not cool. Save yourself and get out of you can.

A very sad situation that is unfortunately getting worse by the day. Hopefully, things will improve soon; otherwise, we'll be continuously falling down the rabbit hole.
Thank you for visiting.
You are living in a particular situation and unfortunately, last two years of madness and now the war are catalyzing all the attention with no focus given to some countries where some disputable decisions are still taken.
Get out if you can and keep sharing what is going on thereI agree with what @mistakili is saying.
Thank you very much, @mikezillo, and we will do our best to express exactly what is happening to us so that the change we desire can become a part of our daily lives.
Thank you for dropping by and for your wonderful comment.
These are all very simple tactics from the government. Doing everything that they can to hold onto what little power they currently have and focusing on personal gain over running the country.
Cryptocurrencies are adirect threat to governments like this as people can work outside of their power circle and they dont like seeing other gain financial freedom and life choices.
I would never like to leave my wn country as it's the only real home that i have but sometimes you need to sit down and look at the bigger picture. Nobody can answer that for you but it's good to list it out and see how to have a better quality of life or stay where you are and fight to improve things.
That is the only way it will improve if people fight for it.

You appear to truly understand what those of us who genuinely care about our country are going through, and it's so sad that the ruling class has chosen to be deliberately obtuse.
Security should be a human right, but as time passes, it appears to be a pipe dream.
Hopefully, we will be able to work together to make our home suitable for living and raising a family in the future.
Thank you for stopping by and for your amazing contribution, @niallon11; you are one of the people on Hive I truly admire..
Reading these stories about the risks you need to take just to go to the football really brings things into perspective.
Football is the same everywhere, but worrying about your safety is not...
Do what you've gotta do to stay safe my friend :(

This really resonates with me, @forexbrokr; in fact, the stadium was also deemed unsafe as a result of unrest after the match, and a FIFA ban was imposed indefinitely after the match.
I truly hope things improve because I prefer to live at home, but if that does not work, we will have to consider other options.
Indeed it is a sad thing to witness the rate at which insecurity issues are on the rise in Nigeria. It is even worse to think that the government is putting strict regulations on cryptocurrency when there are no job opportunities for people.
If only they know what they could benefit from regulating cryptocurrency instead of an outright ban.
We are left to protect ourselves in these dangerous times. Many people have to abandon their homes because of insecurity. It annoys me to see a 70 years old man coming for a presidential position and some individuals are supporting him. The youths have been written off from experiencing leadership at the national level.
You have hit the nail on the head. I think they are all so obtuse about what it takes to fix the nation but yet tend to want to hold on to power with their lives. Like @wil.metcalfe said, in the next 10-20 years all their aged ideologies would be a thing of the past.
Thank you for the amazing comment and thanks for stopping by.
The rate if insecurity in the country is alarming
Jsit recently I made a post about my friend who has lost her husband to the cold hands of death, he was shot by bandits on his way from Abuja to Benin,
The roads are not safe
The trains are not safe
Air self not safe anymore
It’s hard being a NIGERIAN, really hard,
We are all living in a jungle,
Survival of the fittest mode
God save us
That is so sad, we really need to get a handle on the issues of this country otherwise there won't be a future.
This quote is beautiful and gave me goosebumps, I did move away from my home country (Italy) to UK only because I wanted a life, is it too much to ask? I since got a professional job, various pay rises, a certification, a flat with my partner, I did build a life in a country that accepted me and supported me much more that the one where I was born and where I wanted to live!
Completely understand the feeling, you feel lost, not even your home feels like home anymore... time to create your home the way you want, I wish you the best of luck for whatever decision you are going to make, be it stay in Nigeria or move somewhere else, you got my respect and good wished for everything my friend!
Very sad to real about such issues, truly sad, I would have never imagined that the situation is getting that bad!
One thing I learned in my life and I could put my hand on fire about this one : Governments do not care about people!
In the last 50-60 years the Governments of the world have fucked the planet for good, and now automatically everyone living on such planet feels like it's fucked! Because we are fucked my friend...
A new MUSE album is on the way...the last song of the album is called "We are fucking fucked!" Looking forward to listen to it when the album drops...
In the meantime you can enjoy this one:
They want your complience! Don't give it to them! Keep thinking with your head, keep being you! Keep Your Head Up! One Love!
Ah this is interesting. O my! took my time to read and digest every line.
I totally agree with you Pappy, this is a serious situation we are in.
Just look at what happened last week, The Abuja-kaduna train attack. Just horrible!!!
I don't know if us all leaving is the solution, but we sure need a sustainable solution to our problems.
Thank you for voicing our concerns. Brilliant post!!!🧡🤩
I live in Kaduna and had already booked a train ride the next day to see the Nigeria-Ghana game.
😱Goodness me! Thank God you escaped that unfortunate event.
I guess we all are beginning to hate it here. No one enjoys being insecure and with the recent surge in insecurity, all our lives are in danger. You are damn right, we need to get the hell out of this country
Hopefully, things would get better before they can ultimately get worse. I truly love this country and hope to God that we could make it home.

I really hope so too because things are really looking bleak on this end.
i guess you can change the report status now, and my sincere apologies for not reaching out quicker.
All good :) I've taken just as long to reply sometimes.

At this point, this is the best decision for anyone who has the resources to leave the country .
Leaving in Nigeria now is so difficult, we can't even predict the worse that might happen in the up coming election because I don't think good news is still close to this country, that's just the truth .
People loose their lives like fowl , just the other day through the social media a woman was crying on how she helplessly watched her dear husband being slaughtered by the bandit, and so many other ugly news left and right.
It's well oo
You really share my sentiments @nkemakonam89. Hopefully, things would get better before it gets out of hand.
Thank you for reaching out.
