RE: AskLeo - Why Hasn't Hive Gone Mainstream Yet?

in LeoFinance3 years ago (edited)

Mainly, I would say the learning curve is an issue. There are a lot of things you need to figure out before you can navigate this sphere. A lot of people do not have that patience. I have many newbies come into my community confused and even after carefully explaining things to them, they opt-out.

There are centralized platforms that do a better job when it comes to social experience and that's what we are competing with, sadly.

Aside from earning, the major incentive for using hive has been its high censorship resistance and that has been our selling point for years now but that hasn't done much. So I understand the shift to NFT and gaming, since the hive is a multi-purpose chain, it can grow in other directions that are catchy or more appalling to the masses

Are we ever going mainstream? Honestly, I doubt and maybe that's a good thing. Maybe we are structured in a way where multiple small communities can exist but not as a whole.

Lastly marketing. I don't think we've scored it yet. I appreciate the recent efforts to promote hive. It is welcomed the development but I think sub-communities and tribes should take the cue as well. There is so much duplicity (in function) on hive without real growth.

Still talking to the same people I have been talking to for the last four years.

Ease of use is still an issue. We are still dealing with something too "techy" for most. It is something that needs to be focused upon in this year.

True, but if you really are in the search for alternatives to the legacy system apps you'll solve the tiny puzzle of using Hive.

i guess once we get past this hurdle retention rate will increase significantly.

Almost non existent marketing is something Hive is suffering from severely.

This is impacting the blockchain negatively. it is strange discovering that hive is still very much a
novelty in the crypto space. it might be good for some of us in the short-long but certain we don't want to be a chain with potential ten years from now. that narrative will certainly not fly
