Crypto MeetUp

Two weeks ago, a friend invited me to a crypto meetup he is hosting and I was interested as I’ve never been to functions like this and so much a loner I don’t know other traders and enthusiasts in my city.
So the day came, 4th Nov, and I got to the location and they were, as is the Nigerian thing, still setting up the place.

This is the third time I'll be attempting to upload this post, I keep getting the "Failed to publish, need more RC" error urghh.

An hour later, the place was filled and they were ready to begin. The host, Jamil, mentioned the content he’ll go through and said a guest speaker was slated to speak on NFT.
Man, I have never met anyone so ignorant in my life.
The first part of the event went well and it was interesting, not new to me, but interesting to hear again amidst likeminded individuals.
The second part was the NFT bit and this dude came up and talked about NFT, opensea and rarity. In between, he mentioned Fantom and Solana ecosystem. Look, I wouldn’t mind all this, but to say ‘NFT value is solely based on rarity’ is so wrong it hurts.
He was adamant on the fact that if you mint an NFT and set it at a price of 5 eth, it won’t get sold unless it is rare. I chipped in to correct him that the value of NFT is in what the next person is willing to pay for it and while rarity aids price, the shittiest NFT can be worth a lot if the hands changing it says it’s worth that much - much so like actual art, value is placed on it based on what the artist or the gallery perceive it’s worth. In all of this, the speaker took all I said, twisted it up and spat out utter nonsense.
I decided to go for a slam dunk and asked if he was exposed to Hive’s ecosystem? Splinterland especially, and he said no.
I explained how I can buy an NFT for as low as $0.5, use same NFT to battle on Splinterland and grow the level/xp and make the card worth more, they’re probably 1000 pcs of same Card from inception. John Doe still insisted that maybe things are different on the ecosystem I mentioned than Opensea, and at this point, I had nothing more to say.

I met knowledgeable people and it was a fun event overall.

Opportunity For HIVE

I love this community, but it clearly is lacking in it’s awareness department.
I understand that HIVE is a community driven ecosystem and I will do what I can to amplify it to friends in my locale.
Perhaps one day I’ll host a Hive themed meet up for the culture.
Hive clearly is the field that is leveled for both the small guy and big guy alike. For what little time i have been on HIVE, I have earned tokens from writing, playing games on SPLINTERLAND, and purchased my first 6 NFTs that cost me under $10. These were made possible because of HIVE, and the community is so beautiful that I even got gifts from another user. These things aren’t common in other ecosystem as to earn there, you need to trade or purchase and stake coins. HIVE let’s you earn from merely participating as a member. There’s no other ecosystem that comes near the benefits that is HIVE.
Yet, 9 in 10 people know about Binance and 1 in 10 people know about HIVE.

I have taken it upon myself to preach HIVE one tweet a day from Monday 8th November 2021 to 31st December 2021.

I don’t have the following to reach a lot of people, but I am willing to try and I hope HIVE sees this and does something with/for those like myself to encourage us do more.
A HIVE meetup in my city doesn’t sound like a bad idea.

The NFT saga

I wouldn’t claim to be an expert in this department, but just like any art, the worth is what the buyer is willing to pay for it.
While other NFTs have high floor prices and incredibly expensive gas fees, HIVE has Splinterland cards (which are NFTs).
These cards are worth as little as $0.5 on the market. However, the universe favors the brave. If you go on to battle with your cards, they gain XP and increase in levels, and become a little more valuable. You don’t need people to tell you “your NFT must be rare and different to be valuable”
If more people realize that they can

  1. Purchase cheap NFTs
  2. Train their NFTs to be strong
  3. Sell their cheap NFTs for more buck
they’ll jump right in and the number of gamers will increase and add more value to Splinterland and Hive.
I am still getting a hang of Splinterland, but the opportunities within is one not spoken enough about.
More people need to hear about this!!!

I’m looking forward to attending more events of this nature and someday attend or host one about HIVE.
