Disasi: We have the chance to shine on the European stage

The defender is embarking on his maiden European adventure with the Blues. He has started each of our three games in UEFA’s newest competition to date, and will be expecting to add to that tally when we meet Panathinaikos in Athens on Thursday evening.

There is still a long road to navigate to reach the final in Wroclaw in late May, but Disasi is acutely aware of Chelsea’s record in continental competition. He knows what is expected.

‘We haven’t properly discussed or set any objectives so far, but as Chelsea representatives, and just being Chelsea, actually, it’s about going all the way,’ he stated.

‘Chelsea is renowned for going all the way in European competitions. Also, we know that if we win it, we would be the first ever club to win the Champions League, Europa League and Conference League. That obviously drives us, and it’s clearly our ambition.

‘For a club like Chelsea, not playing European football last season was not normal. This season, we have the opportunity to shine on the European stage, and we’ll do everything we can to bring the club back where it belongs.’

Disasi has plenty of European experience to his name, having featured in Champions League qualifiers and reached the knockouts in two Europa League campaigns with Monaco.

He is very happy to be back on the European stage, which offers him the opportunity to discover new venues and countries, as well as sample different atmospheres. He can expect a lively one in the Greek capital on Thursday, with a huge sell-out crowd expected at the Olympic Stadium.

The Blues are looking to build on our matchday one victory against Gent, in which captain Disasi provided a superb assist for Pedro Neto just after the interval. He clipped a ball over the Buffalos’ backline which the Portuguese latched on to before blasting home, and immediately turning to celebrate with Disasi.

I sent some to you.
