Back when the internet was young I was actually working in IT. The big fear at the time was having your financial information on the internet. For example, they did not want to buy something on a website they never heard of, at the time Amazon was a new business and did not yet have the public's trust.
When trusted companies well-known companies started to sell online it was easier to explain to clients that it is actually safer than giving your card to a store clerk.
It is happening through NFTs like Mattel making Hot Wheels NFTs that sell for more money than the actual Hot Wheels cars :-)
