RE: Sleight of Lifestyle

in LeoFinance2 years ago

I recently took my boys skiing, to Mt Buller in Victoria. We had a great time for 5 days, and sent lots of photos back to family at home.
I briefly contemplated posting a heap of the shots on Facebook; but then I realised how insecure and inadequate that would make some of my Facebook friends feel.
The snow isn't easy or cheap here in Australia; and when I scroll through my feed, all I see are highlights from friends' lives.
I don't see that inflamed boil on Davo's leg; or the frustrating day Simon had at work. They only post their good days, and that skews everyone else's baseline for how others are living. Many of my friends get it, and would just be happy to see the photos, but for those stuck in that bubble, I don't want to make it worse.
Just one less reason to have Facebook, I guess.

Hope you had a good trip too!
Never been to Buller, but I have heard it is decent.

It isn't just about making them feel worse, it also drives that "lifestyle inflation" too, doesn't it? It is crowdsourced advertising, with in-built peer validation.
