If I lived in NY and could work remotely I would migrate out due to cost of living

Yeah without a doubt. That is who leaves typically, the ones with money. The person having to work at a counter in a hotel is stuck there.
the real question is why do they migrate then complain about where they are now & how NY is better 🙄
Oh well I wouldn't know but I hope they're all safe wherever they're migrating to.
It's gotten a lot more difficult to live here in many different ways: financially, safety, socially, etc. It's definitively gone downhill compared to a couple of decades ago.
High taxes, rising crime, deterioration of public services. The usual reasons.
