EXMO, a crypto asset exchange from England, claims to have been hacked. As a result, money worth Rp.149 billion disappeared later.

Reporting from Decrypt, Bitcoin, Ether and other crypto assets have drifted from a number of EXMO hot wallets. Some analysts said that the loss was around US $ 10.5 million (Rp149 billion).

“There has been an unauthorized withdrawal of crypto assets since 21 December 2020 at 2:27:02 UTC. We are still investigating this incident. Based on an interim review, a number of crypto assets BTC, XRP, ZEC, USDT, ETC, and ETH in the EXMO hot wallet have moved, "said EXMO in its official statement, December 21, 2020.

In total, the crypto assets that evaporated were around 5 percent of the total assets managed by EXMO. Once the hack was discovered, EXMO suspended all withdrawals, simultaneously urging its clients not to deposit additional funds until further notice.

“We respectfully ask all services and exchanges to block all accounts connected to this [hacked] wallet. Currently, we are looking for the cause of the incident and will continue to provide the latest information, "said EXMO.
According to Maria Stankevich, Head of Business Development for EXMO UK, the exact amount of funds stolen is still being calculated.

In addition, he said that if some EXMO users were affected by the hack, the exchange would compensate them.

Based on Igor Igamberdiev's study of The Block, he estimated that EXMO's loss was US $ 10.5 million.
“We reported the case to the London police this morning. We will also conduct a thorough security review which will cover all parts of our system and data, ”added EXMO.
