Dos 16 aos 64 anos: Brasil terá 280 atletas em busca de recordes nas Paralimpíadas
A delegação brasileira dos Jogos Paralímpicos de Paris, que começam nesta quarta-feira, tem 280 atletas, de 16 a 64 anos, e é a segunda maior da história do país, abaixo apenas de 2016, quando Rio de Janeiro foi sede do evento.
As mulheres ainda são minoria, pouco mais de 40%, mas garantem a maior participação da história. Por fim, 23 dos 26 estados, além do Distrito Federal, estão inclusos no time, que tem tudo para bater o recorde histórico de medalhas.
Serão 280 atletas brasileiros nos Jogos Paralímpicos de Paris, 255 deles são esportistas com deficiência.

Os atletas estão representados em 20 das 22 modalidades do programa dos Jogos. O Brasil não conseguiu vaga apenas no basquete em cadeira de rodas e no rúgbi em cadeira de rodas. Destes 280 atletas, 117 são mulheres, ou seja, 41%. O maior número da história, mas ainda minoria.
A maior delegação do Brasil foi no Rio, com 285 atletas, e 72 medalhas, sendo 14 delas de ouro. Mas a melhor campanha veio em Tóquio 2020, com a sétima posição no quadro geral, com 72 medalhas, sendo 22 ouros, 20 pratas e 30 bronzes. Em Paris, o objetivo ousado do Comitê Paralímpico do Brasil é terminar a competição pela primeira vez no top 5.
A atleta com mais participações paralímpicas da delegação é a nadadora Edênia Garcia, que está a caminho da sexta edição. Esteve presente em Atenas 2004, Pequim 2008, Londres 2012, Rio 2016 e Tóquio 2021. Aos 37 anos, a nadadora da classe S3 tem três medalhas, duas pratas e um bronze, no currículo.
Victor dos Santos Almeida, de 16 anos e três meses, é o atleta mais novo do Brasil nas Paralimpíadas. O nadador da classe S9 (limitação físico-motora), tem os 100m costas como principal prova. Entre as mulheres, a mais jovem é a mesatenista Sophia Kelmer, também de 16 anos, mas completa 17 em dezembro. Ela é da classe 8.
O cearense Eugênio Franco, 64 anos, é o atleta mais velho da delegação brasileira. Ele compete no tiro com arco e conseguiu a vaga pelo título dos Jogos Parapan-Americanos do ano passado.
