Love to have a space like this to vent, so here's a petty thing to vent about... Playing FFVII, I've been grinding and fighting Emerald Weapon for two days now and keep getting destroyed every time... I'm thinking of dropping this part of the playthrough, as I already beat the final boss.

Players like OpenAI & Anthropic store everything, forever. And to be able to orient and predict all our daily "choices" in a world they're essentially crafting themselves.
Yep, 100%. There are downsides to everything and this is certainly one of them. I guess you can say the same for google/facebook/twitter, that we've already been feeding for years.
My perspective/approach, at least for now, is that they (the closed source models) are here whether we like it or not, so might as well make the best of it and experiment with them all to learn the strengths and weaknesses.

As per the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), 352,000 children and adolescents younger than age 20 years—or 35 per 10,000 U.S. youths were diagnosed with diabetes.
Now, scientists at Mount Sinai and City of Hope have alas made a breakthrough to essentially reverse the disease by developing a new drug therapy.

In a move that blends ancient traditions with modern technology, Dubai Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has launched the trial operation of the world’s first electric abra (a traditional boat made of wood) manufactured using 3D printing technology.
The 20-passenger vessel was manufactured by Abu Dhabi’s global maritime organization Al Seer Marine in collaboration with Tasneef Maritime, Japan’s Mitsubishi, and Germany’s Siemens and Torqeedo, according to an RTA press release on July 14.

Comcast & Bally Sports Reportedly Restart Talks as Bally Sports Tries to Find a Way to Keep Going
Last May, Comcast dropped the regional sports networks (RSNs) Bally Sports from its lineup. According to Bally Sports, Comcast wanted to move the network to a more expensive package. This move could result in Bally Sports not being able to move forward.
The news that Bally Sports was dropped by Comcast was quickly followed by reports that the two companies had ended talks. Now, according to a report from Sportico, Comcast has restarted talks with the Diamond Sports Group, the parent company of Bally Sports.
This comes as Bally Sports needs to find a way forward before a hearing about its bankruptcy.

DISH Is Reportedly at High Risk of Being Unable to Pay Its Bills
DISH has been struggling financially for some time now. Recently, it merged with EchoStar in an effort to address these issues but, according to an SEC filing last March, DISH will use a “substantial amount of cash” in the next 12 months. It “raises substantial doubt about [the company’s] ability to continue as a going [sic] concern,” EchoStar said.
DISH also raised serious “substantial doubt” about the company’s ability to continue. According to MoffettNathanson analyst Craig Moffett, DISH’s pay-TV service and mobile business are also “spiraling towards bankruptcy.”
