to be honest, anywhere is ok. I’d go the place that costs the least for flights and hotel. The most fun thing in Japan (at first)is to just see how every little thing is slightly different. The convenience stores, bakeries, arcades, and the food.
That's awesome to hear. Thank you. Affordable flights and accommodation are sure nice. And it makes sense to explore various places, taste their food, and experience their lifestyle even just for a while :)
Since you live in Tokyo, I need to ask: Is Nippon Professional Baseball part of your routine? I know the Yomiuri Giants have a big influence on life in the city.
Shohei Ohtani can retire from MLB right now and be voted into the Baseball Hall of Fame as early as 2029. No other player in my lifetime has done what he has, and the only other player to compare with him is Babe Ruth.
I was a NY Yankees in MLB but also Giants after Hideki Matsui joined the NYY. I even got to see Ichiro Suzuki play for the NYY. I knew other players would follow Ichiro into the BBHOF; I just didn't think it would be so soon (Ohtani).
Sure, I would love it more. Cabbage pancake looks more delicious and nutritious. But I can try to make a bigger samosa and fill it up with more proteins and veggies and prepare a sweet and sour sauce to go with.
since we are speaking about beer…Japan has a drink called Happoushu. It’s malt with shochu (rice or yam liquor) that tastes pretty much like beer and is cheaper but I don’t like it! It’s a cheap alternative though
Thank you, I didn’t realize how easy this would be. I thought it would be impossible to get any engagement but since I remain in the circle up there as long as the thread is active I guess I can just keep popping in and out until a conversations gets going 😊 I’m dying for shorts.
I totally agree! I enjoyed the news threadcast of yesterday as well, though I prefer this one as it has some personal touch on it (and just interests me personally more)
@winanda, do you care for the below? 🐀 Rat 😂😂, please @selfhelp4trolls, I need some frog legs with some cooked pig blood sausage for myself and winanda 😉😉. I want he to eat some Japanese food..
Cooked pig blood sausage? What? This doesn't sound good at all. If there is something like that, I wonder how those who consume it look and what it does to them. 🤔
BTW, I've cooked frog meat and used it to make stew, it was delicious.
What a great use-case for threadcasts! I gotta work now, but I'll try to think of something. Japan has always fascinated me deeply. And I've never been

You know, you can't tell the taste of food until you eat it, so place an order for the Sunday rice and cabbage pancake, when I receive your payment in thousands of LEO tokens, I will begin the process. LOL
if you aren’t loud and dont do anything too crazy they might talk to you if you talk to them first and they aren’t super busy. It’s hard to do that as a resident though, especially when it fails 70% of the time

Japan doesn’t have much street food, it’s only allowed in designated areas and events but I really like okonomiyaki, a cabbage pancake with sweet barbecue sauce
another frustrating thing about Japan is that if you aren’t familiar with the train you MUST use google maps. Some train lines split and some have Local, Rapid, Ultra Rapid and Special rapid 😝
I guess this will be a slow moving threadcast since it’s text based but I’ll be around. I’ll keep posting things and answering questions as I go about my day
one thing I hate in Japan is that the products in the store rotate. So if you find a favorite pastry or ice cream or drink, it may disappear for a year or two before reappearing
truthfully, since the economy is kind of collapsing but it’s a popular place, Japanese life support is tourism. It’s getting absurdly full of tourists during holiday season.
you could easily stay in Kyoto but it’s so flooded with tourists so if you don’t like that I’d choose Osaka or somewhere else nearby. Many people like Kanazawa. I’ve never been
@ifarmgirl sorry I didn’t give the best answer about a place for tourists. I’ve never been much of a tourist but I think being based in Osaka is perfect because Kyoto, Nara and Kobe are all super close by. That’s 4 cities in one go. You can take day trips to each and spend a few days in Osaka
Oh, your reply was very helpful. It never occurred to me to check arcades or convenience stores when in another country. So thank you :) And I will remember that Osaka could be a nice spot to be when one wants to access 4 different cities :) My sister was suggesting a trip in November and I'm still considering since it would be winter over there 😉
I mentioned one reason I came was music. Particularly a pop singer named Shiina Ringo. Her first 4 albums are phenomenal as well as the first 2 albums from her band Tokyo Jihen!
I mentioned shotengai, shopping streets. These tend to be local shops. Usually there is a noodle shop or two, a rice set restaurant, cafes and bars, clothing and accessories and everything you need for daily life on these streets. I love many of them. The older the better
also “friends” is a funny concept. It’s easy to make friends at a bar but you may never have a chance to meet them outside the bar. People separate work and play and different groups of friends
I don’t drink anymore and so it’s become very difficult to make friends! There used to be more daytime spots but now people don’t talk at all during the daytime
it’s true that many people in Japan are shy or quiet but daytime and nighttime is totally opposite. Because….ALCOHOL. Japan + Alcohol is a different story
speaking of communities, I used to go to a Kendama cafe. Kendama is a game where you catch the ball on a pole or groove. I never played but I liked watching them 😆
I just had my food served to me by a robot 🤣 the girl next to me and I weren’t sure who it was for since we ordered the same thing. I told her it’s hers and then she looked back at her phone and we didn’t talk. This is common.
I also came here because I wanted to be “a minority” since many of my friends came from India or Korea and a few were black in high school. Japan felt like the safest place as well so I could explore without any reservations.
it’s considered ready rude to take pictures of people in Japan so you have to be careful. You can actually be fined if you post them without their consent
Tokyo has something for everyone. There are cafes and bars and shops for any and every hobby you can imagine. It’s easy to find a community but sometimes it’s far from you
I’m eating lunch at a department store right now. Usually I prefer smaller local places but recently because of inflation, these “fancy” shops are more bang for your buck.
Of course people want to sightsee but I always find that friends and family enjoy walking around and exploring daily life the most, but I’d choose a place with a local shopping street called “shoutengai”. Those are fun
I chose Japan for many reasons, mainly the food and the music, and also the fact that people do not have a problem blending religions or having 2 religions. Spirituality is personal.
I decided to come to Japan because I felt annoyed with the fact that America, despite claiming to be a melting pot, didn’t have all that much music, film from other countries in the early 2000’s
Oh! Wow! I love pancakes. This cabbage pancake looks delicious and being made of cabbage would be nutritious. I love to try out new recipes and hope to try this someday. Thanks so much.
@winanda I don’t think anyone would have a bad time here for a week or two. But it can cost a lot of money and if you stay longer it might get lonely depending on your lifestyle
@winanda there are tons of events but they aren’t usually social unless it’s with friends. People tend not to interact with strangers. They don’t make eye contact with them. Most events make you feel like a customer only
I’ve been practicing guitar so my replies are a little slow but I’m still here. Here is a rooftop park in the biggest center, Shinjuku. I’m back in my local neighborhood now
bon odori is a more popular kind of dance for festivals in the summer. Most people know the dance or they copy others. This was the after party. We kept going
this is what the country side looks like. I found a tiny patch of country in the city, about 15 minutes by train from the center. Usually you need to go out an hour to find this
It looks really great! Searched for some pictures. Although I think there aren't resorts with over 300km of connected slopes, atleast when I google for Nagano.
The googling made me want to go skiing again though!
#freecompliments
the biggest difference between the western culture I grew up with and Japan is that if you call someone “normal” it’s a compliment here. In the US people take that as boring and not good at anything https://inleo.io/threads/view/stekene/re-selfhelp4trolls-2ur9fa1wd
Belgium has a lot of white beers that taste a little sweet so that’s what I mean. These beers taste good on their own, while the bigger Japanese brands (Asahi, Kirin)taste good with food
Coedo and Yona Yona are two more large “microbreweries” (not so micro) Yona Yona is so bitter, IPA. Coedo has a mix like Hitachino and is good but I prefer Hitachino
if you scroll down you’ll see I left some YouTube shorts. Would love to upload in house but maybe it’ll help grow the yt channel which could help onboard someone? Just gotta do it and see
There are tons of holidays and there isn't a sense that any is most important except maybe New years which people spend with their family eating and relaxing and visiting a temple for 3 days
last chance to ask questions before I go to sleep in an hour! I don’t think it will last the whole day next time but it was fun, hope more people get involved next time
This is an interesting idea for a threadcast. Maybe some of this concept should be implemented into this one. Post some things about Brazil that could lead to more engagement.
That's it, I once said something similar to a friend here in the community. I told him not to worry about those who are not helping, but to do the best for those who are here, always giving some strength.
GIVE MY MONEY e é isso.

As much as it is cool that threads don't show how old they are....it's also super confusing at times, especially for when people make announcements of things.
To rebuff something, such as an offer or suggestion, is to reject or criticize it sharply. One can also rebuff a person by rudely rejecting or refusing them.
//When their request was immediately rebuffed by upper management, the staff was left frustrated yet also more determined.
#newsonleo #unitedkingdom #politics YouGov poll for the first indicates that the ruling Conservative (Tory) Party would end on July 4th general election on 3rd place, behind right-wing Reform party. 1/
2/ While everyone expects Labour to win next election and return to power with unprecedented majority in Parliament, until recently few expected such spectacular slide of fortunes for Tories, which had won 2019 election with high margin.
If polls are reflected in actual contest, Tories would suffer not only from Labour, but from Reform, which could expect to become second largest party in Britain.
To say that such events are rare in British politics is understatement. Last time such realingment happened more than century ago, during 1923 when the emerging Labour Party replaced Liberals as the 2nd strongest party. Since Britian has, in practicality, a two-party system, that meant slow but inevitable decline for Liberals that never, with a sole exception of Churchill's WW2 grand coalition cabinet, participated in national government.
I just had a question about BBH and the Curation Trail. Seems I am causing confusion. They are two separate things. You do not need any BBH or even have anything to do with BBH to join the Trail.
One should see and hear people. We need to learn accurate tale. The great majority never discover the trauma in their lifetime. They usually use different expressions for it. There are moments of irritation and suffering, and sometimes you think they are inferior.
Often, one does not develop self-esteem from the inside. All they perceive is how other people treat them.

There is always two sides of a coin. But peoole alwsys likes to look and talk about the good Part and afraid of talking about the bad part. But in my opinion highlighting the bad parts helps people to get better. So does in our Hive

Hello Self Help For Trolls!
It feels good to know this about food in Japan. Great threadcast up for today. 🥂
@winanda okonomiyaki is very easy to make, you don’t need any special ingredients except the sauce which is usually pre-made and Japanese mayonnaise which is thicker than other countries

truthfully, since the economy is kind of collapsing but it’s a popular place, Japanese life support is tourism.
So thank you :) And I will remember that Osaka could be a nice spot to be when one wants to access 4 different cities :) My sister was suggesting a trip in November and I'm still considering since it would be winter over there 😉
I eat at nicer restaurants now because they cost 1200-1400 (same as before) and cheap restaurants cost around 1000 (they used to be 700)
I mentioned one reason I came was music.
I challenge this by inviting my students to come join my friends or mixing groups of friends. Sometimes it goes very well, sometimes it’s awkward!
also “friends” is a funny concept.
@magnacarta you don’t have to like baseball here but you must like Otani 😂
speaking of communities, I used to go to a Kendama cafe.
This is common.
people don’t start conversations with strangers too easily though. It doesn’t happen often in the city.
please keep all comments in the main thread for now 😊
I also came here because I wanted to be “a minority” since many of my friends came from India or Korea and a few were black in high school.
That's one yummy and healthy dish!
I should probably comment to posts in the main thread instead of as a reply. I will just tag you if I’m replying to you from now
Of course people want to sightsee but I always find that friends and family enjoy walking around and exploring daily life the most, but I’d choose a place with a local shopping street called “shoutengai”. Those are fun
I chose Japan for many reasons, mainly the food and the music, and also the fact that people do not have a problem blending religions or having 2 religions. Spirituality is personal.
I made a list of countries I was curious about including France, Brazil, India and a couple others I can’t remember now. Anywhere felt exciting.

I thought you have it there, because is one of my favorite 😂😂. Roasted rat and frogs legs 😋😋😋.

@winanda I don’t think anyone would have a bad time here for a week or two. But it can cost a lot of money and if you stay longer it might get lonely depending on your lifestyle
thank you! The stuff I put out is quite random but I hope you enjoy it!
https://inleo.io/threads/view/winanda/re-selfhelp4trolls-2d1vyeayw
You're welcome. I enjoy them.
@winanda there are tons of events but they aren’t usually social unless it’s with friends. People tend not to interact with strangers. They don’t make eye contact with them. Most events make you feel like a customer only
let’s keep this alive since some people are just waking up now!
It’s 7 pm in Japan!
@winanda cooked monkfish is and looks delicious but have you ever seen a monkfish? Hahahaha I’m glad I tried this before I knew what they look like
Beautiful right? Delicious though!!!
This food must be more tasty than @winanda's Sunday rice.. 😂😂😂
Please prove me wrong by sending the pictures of your Sunday rice..

I’ve been practicing guitar so my replies are a little slow but I’m still here. Here is a rooftop park in the biggest center, Shinjuku. I’m back in my local neighborhood now
I made a new account to post some shorts to 3speak, very short videos from life in Japan @untangledknots
here is a butoh performance, a very creepy style of dance that you don’t see often. Most Japanese people don’t know it well
bon odori is a more popular kind of dance for festivals in the summer. Most people know the dance or they copy others. This was the after party. We kept going
this was my favorite festival of the year. It was insane 🤣 traditional mixed with modern. YMCA Japan
I went to see my students street painting. I like this kind of event but as I said people aren’t that social 😆
these are random moments from life in Tokyo haha. Over the course of 2 years. It’s not this exciting every day.
I was served by one of these today. Are they getting popular elsewhere?
this is what the country side looks like. I found a tiny patch of country in the city, about 15 minutes by train from the center. Usually you need to go out an hour to find this
The one thing I’ll never get used to in Japan
This is a beautiful view.
Practicing guitar? I thought you play it very well. I have watched some of your videos.

What's the best Japanese #beer in your opinion?
#freecompliments
@stekene there are plenty of ski resorts. I’ve heard Nagano is a popular area for that though I have never been! It must be very nice
Do you ski/board yourself?
It looks really great! Searched for some pictures. Although I think there aren't resorts with over 300km of connected slopes, atleast when I google for Nagano.
The googling made me want to go skiing again though!

It's 11:28 am here in Nigeria.
https://inleo.io/threads/view/selfhelp4trolls/re-selfhelp4trolls-22maawncn
the biggest difference between the western culture I grew up with and Japan is that if you call someone “normal” it’s a compliment here. In the US people take that as boring and not good at anything
https://inleo.io/threads/view/stekene/re-selfhelp4trolls-2ur9fa1wd
That's indeed a difference. In Belgium people (including me) would rather be called special as well instead of normal.
#freecompliments
Ginga kougen is also a good smaller brand that you can find in some Lawson convenience stores or in popular areas of the city. Tastes Belgian
https://inleo.io/threads/view/stekene/re-selfhelp4trolls-374rnqvkr
'tastes Belgian', any specific beer in mind that 'tastes Belgian'? I'm really curious on that one! ;p
#freecompliments
Belgium has a lot of white beers that taste a little sweet so that’s what I mean. These beers taste good on their own, while the bigger Japanese brands (Asahi, Kirin)taste good with food

Coedo and Yona Yona are two more large “microbreweries” (not so micro) Yona Yona is so bitter, IPA. Coedo has a mix like Hitachino and is good but I prefer Hitachino
if you scroll down you’ll see I left some YouTube shorts. Would love to upload in house but maybe it’ll help grow the yt channel which could help onboard someone? Just gotta do it and see

a very quick glance at what a temple entrance looks like
Temples and Shrines all over Tokyo
a quick explanation of what’s hard to get used to in Japan with some footage of another temple:
I’ll be awake for another 3 hours or so. We can keep this going until then if anyone has any other questions or comments
There are tons of holidays and there isn't a sense that any is most important except maybe New years which people spend with their family eating and relaxing and visiting a temple for 3 days

hiii I don’t speak Portuguese but I’m rooting for Hive Brazil and Leo Brazil. Didn’t even know you existed til now! 🔥 🔥
Welcome to our world.
Hello there! Welcome to the brazillian threadcast! We're here every day interacting, and you can do that too. We speak Portuguese and English as well.
Welcome, I'm glad you found us! You can participate at will, write in Portuguese or English, we'll find a way to communicate lol.
If you have any questions or curiosity about Brazil or Brazilians, feel free to ask!
Welcome! Glad to have you here
This is an interesting idea for a threadcast. Maybe some of this concept should be implemented into this one. Post some things about Brazil that could lead to more engagement.
https://inleo.io/threads/view/selfhelp4trolls/re-leothreads-2yjwnyjym
really is, I like it
Yeah. Me too. I hope others follow suit.
We can do a lot with threadcasts.
Cool idea :)
I'll learn some stuff about japan
We can work on it.

#hivebr and the #photography threadcast are going at it. Neck and neck with the comments.
Which will be the most active?
Our champions are absent today, but we continue in the battle haha
Can only fight with those who are here. Cant wish those who are not were in the battle.
That's it, I once said something similar to a friend here in the community. I told him not to worry about those who are not helping, but to do the best for those who are here, always giving some strength.
Oieeeeeeeeeeee bom dia

Bom dia.

Bom dia, hivers!
GIVE MY MONEY e é isso.
Greetings my dear friends, how is your day going? Happy weekend to you all.

As much as it is cool that threads don't show how old they are....it's also super confusing at times, especially for when people make announcements of things.
interesting take. Maybe people should put more info into announcements. But I have to think on this
That's only on the For You Feed
On the Latest feed, they're sorted by time
The intention of the For You feed is that the content is mixed by relevance (not time)
I like that is by relevance on on the FYP. Whether the time needs to not be shown is a coin flip of opinion I suppose.
A wonderful day for the whole hive. #freecompliments #liotes #hive #cent

What It Means
To rebuff something, such as an offer or suggestion, is to reject or criticize it sharply. One can also rebuff a person by rudely rejecting or refusing them.

Let's get ready to roll our shorts.

Hanks, Cruise, Ford, Nicholson and Pitt.

Time to buy moar 😅
Spanish...
Must know how to pronounce things correctly 😅
Reminded me of a time I was trying to say "great tea" in Mandarin and I ended up saying some bad words, lol!
Funny one.
It's easy to confuse whether we're talking about dad or a sweet potato... but a forty-seven-year-old sweet potato sounds intriguing :)

Big word in there I guess but I don't understand the language.
Pure Spanish here. 😅
Pronounciation could be funny and might lead to somewhere else.

1/3🧵. #Threadstorm
There is always two sides of a coin. But peoole alwsys likes to look and talk about the good Part and afraid of talking about the bad part. But in my opinion highlighting the bad parts helps people to get better. So does in our Hive

2/3🧵. After spending some glorious years and seeing ups and down on Hive. I highlighted few negative aspects on Hive. No offence to this beautiful platform, but my observation are my sole opinion. It was not made to hurt or pinpoint to any specific. It is good to work for betterment.

Actual payout from HP delegation is less than daily payout in my dashboard. Expecting to receive around 4 LEO but only got 1.7.
hmm it’s possible the UI is wrong - the backend payout definitely isn’t
I’ll take a look at the UI’s calculator
Thank you for the quick reply.
Oh btw, when my HP delegation was 1,000 recently, I was having a daily payout of 1.6 LEO but now at 2,500 HP I'm only getting 1.7 LEO.

Backblaze Computer Backup. $10/month and it works great for continuous backups. I can get you a ref link that gets us both a free month if you want!
Thanks for the recommendation, maybe next time :)

Haha, thank you.

I have to run it again, lol! I had a lunch break, my laptop went into sleep mode and my recovery storage got disconnected so not all files were recovered.
Good morning everyone. I am in my village and I am feeling very refreshing. Still I am walking and within few minutes I will reach to my home. I am super excited.
