Hive is a very wide ecosystem, we always have to be updated and keep learning constantly. I don't think it's complicated, but there are so many options that it can be confusing for some people.
Using markdown on Hive to create articles isn't the most pleasant or easiest thing for newbies or web2 people. If you've tried the editor on Medium, you know what I mean.

I can't agree less that hive blockchain is the most easiest blockchain to use and it's even easier to use the hive wallet
I think the main issue is network effect, its going to be a tough battle for hive but I think slowly but surely its going to earn its keep

If the price of Bitcoin can easily go 10x or lose 90% in any given year then it becomes impossible to use it as a measurement for value. Imagine if you had a ruler that kept changing the definition of what a foot or meter was. That ruler would be worthless. You'd never be able to build a product using those measurements.
The same is true for an unstable currency: it can't be used as a measurement and therefore becomes a worthless unit of account. This is why most of the world values USD so much: it is the most stable currency available to them by exponential margins.

For example, to get that experience with mobility the phones, or whatever devices that will be used, will need to pull compute from those around them. These people will want to be compensated for using their compute...
that's right.
Here is where crypto enters. My device could pay your device for the 3 minutes I used some of your compute.
This is a long way off because edge computing is not there yet plus there are obvious security concerns.

But then, DeFi users are still paying some coins as fee to add/remove liquidity and in exchanges too. That may amount to much with big volumes of transactions. How do we handle that?
That is true. But the fees are not going to centralized entities in that instance. Liquidity pools can be structured so that the "fees" go to those involved instead of paying CZ or people at CEX.
Very valid scenario you brought up here but CZ and his Binance is more loud and popular than Dexes. The average Joe out there knows about Binance and thinks it's the best place to be in crypto. What's the way forward?

Web3 is an infrastructure, we first had Web1, then currently we are transitioning from Web2 (centralized points of distribution) to Web3 (decentralized points of distribution (IPFS for example is one of the oldest ways to distribute data)
I understand that but my point was that those are the exact jargon the mainstream people don't want to hear. They want to hear a simplified version.
There is no point in teaching people that don't want to learn. What we should do, is debate and call out those wankers that preach Web3, while they factually are preaching Web2.
Good points! Then again, there are a big group of potential user who don't want to know how things work - they just want things to work. Targeting them with a smooth approach that anyone can understand isn't a bad IMO.

Trying to establish a new unit of account is like trying to start replacing inches or kilometers.
It's not that crazy. The dollar has been dominant for one century and money is way older than that.

3/ It started with the $30 million buy of Voice.com from Microstrategy. Then it took another $180 million in operations. This was backed by Block.One, although things fizzled after Larimer left.
2/ Voice was the idea of Dan Larimer of putting decentralized social media on EOS. The idea was one person, one voice. Of course, to do that, it had KYC which really goes against the tenets of #crypto.
I've actually never heard of this "VOICE" before... No surprise it has been killed!
And hopefully you may never hear it again , only may be at the peak of the bull run for some people to FOMO in their money there.
4/ It was also supposed to be the Hive killer (well Steem) due to Larimer's tied to that blockchain. Ultimately, it killed off nothing but itself.
