I was about to write something similar to what @eniolw wrote. JWST is not a product of NASA alone. It is a collaboration of many space agencies from all over the world. This is how it works today. Since tabletop days are far behind us, we need to work together to move forward! Moreover, we need to work together for a long time as building those apparatuses takes more than a few days...

This is true for space, but also for other domains (like particle physics ;) ). This is what I really like with science. It pushes frontiers further, and (try to) ignore (most) conflicts.
