Cryptos A New Hope for Latin America

Recientemente leí un artículo en el que se mencionaba que al menos el 46% de los latinoamericanos veían a las criptomonedas como una herramienta de ahorro para el futuro. Me pareció interesante comentarlo.

Como ya todos sabemos, nuestra región no se caracteriza por ser la más sólida y estable; todo lo contrario, la inflación y la inestabilidad económica son características que, muy tristemente, definen a la mayoría de nuestros países. Por lo tanto, se puede entender el incremento en el interés por salvaguardar el patrimonio y buscar mejores oportunidades para el futuro, fuera de los sistemas convencionales. Creo que muchos ya hemos perdido la fe en la banca nacional, y pocos confían en que el Estado pueda garantizar un futuro.

Por ejemplo, Argentina y Venezuela son dos países donde la inflación ha llegado a niveles muy elevados, y es normal que, ante esta situación, las personas busquen cómo proteger sus activos. Una forma efectiva de protegerse de la inflación se ha encontrado en las criptomonedas.

Habiendo dicho esto, ¿qué se podría esperar o cuál sería el panorama futuro en la región? Pues yo creería que la adopción seguirá creciendo, y cada vez más personas se interesarán en las criptomonedas, como mencioné, como un medio de protección de su capital. La bola de nieve que se ha creado seguirá creciendo más y más, ya que no parece que nuestros gobiernos estén trabajando en pro de los ciudadanos. Como es natural, creo que mientras más personas se interesen en la tecnología y, quizás, a medida que se incluyan más regulaciones, las personas confiarán más y se le dará un mayor uso.

Nuestros países latinoamericanos son tan diferentes entre sí, aunque a veces parezcamos similares, vaya paradoja. La realidad de cada país es distinta, y por lo tanto, las oportunidades que existen en cada uno también lo son. Por ejemplo, las oportunidades que existen en países como Brasil y México, que son dos gigantes de la región, no se encuentran en otros países.

Un aspecto que destaca es cómo se está utilizando la tecnología para las remesas: el envío y la recepción de dinero al exterior de forma inmediata y sin ningún tipo de intermediario ni burocracia, y por supuesto, con comisiones mucho más bajas. Estas son características que definitivamente llaman la atención en la región.

Mientras más comercios comiencen a aceptar criptomonedas como medio de pago, y no solo unos cuantos de forma casi anónima, ayudará significativamente a su masificación. Sé que es difícil, pero las oportunidades están en nuestra región, y creo que esto irá solo hacia arriba, aunque aún enfrentemos algunos problemas con la educación financiera.

Recently, I read an article that mentioned that at least 46% of Latin Americans see cryptocurrencies as a tool for future savings. I thought it was interesting to comment on it.

As we all know, our region is not known for being the most solid and stable; quite the opposite. Inflation and economic instability are sadly characteristics that define most of our countries. Therefore, it's understandable that there's an increasing interest in safeguarding wealth and seeking better opportunities for the future, outside of conventional systems. I believe that many of us have already lost faith in the national banking system, and few trust that the government can guarantee a future.

For example, Argentina and Venezuela are two countries where inflation has reached very high levels, and it’s normal for people in these situations to seek ways to protect their assets. A good way to protect oneself from inflation has been found in cryptocurrencies.

That said, what could be expected, or what would the future look like for the region? Well, I would believe that adoption will continue to increase, and more and more people will become interested in cryptocurrencies, as I mentioned, as a means to protect their capital. The snowball effect that has been created will keep growing bigger and bigger since it’s not like our governments are working for the benefit of the citizens. Naturally, I think that as more people become interested in the technology and perhaps as more regulations are implemented, people will gain more trust, and crypto will be used even more.

Our Latin American countries are so different from each other, even though we may seem alike—what a paradox. The reality of each country is different, and therefore, the opportunities in each one are also distinct. For instance, the opportunities in countries like Brazil and Mexico, two giants of the region, are not the same as those found in other countries.

One notable thing is how the technology is being used for remittances: sending and receiving money abroad instantly, without any intermediary or bureaucracy, and, of course, with much lower fees. These are things that undoubtedly catch people's attention in the region.

As more businesses start accepting cryptocurrencies as a means of payment, and not just a few almost anonymously, it will significantly help their widespread adoption. I know it’s difficult, but the opportunities are in our region, and I believe this will only go upwards, although we still have some challenges regarding financial education.
