Newbie Here!

in LeoFinance4 years ago

Hey everyone! I just registered for Leo Finance right now, and I'm not sure how things work. If anybody could explain to me, that'd be really helpful! I saw some people get 5 upvotes, but it said they got 0 LEO, and others got only one upvote, and still got LEO. How does the upvoting system work, and are some people's upvotes worth more than others?
Thanks,
Kate9981

Welcome aboard.

The leo vote is stake weighted, so the amount depends on how much leo staked the voter has.

The numbers you see are the total vote values, your reward will be half of that, payed 7 days after the post goes up. The other half goes back to the voters.

Best of luck on your LEO adventure, My best advice is to read and ask lots of questions.

The Leo discord mentioned by rolland is a great place to ask for advice.

Howdy Kate. Welcome to LeoFinance. You have it exactly right. Some votes are indeed worth more than others.

Increase your vote power by sharing your posts and earning rewards. Reading others posts and commenting is another great way to earn some LEO while getting familiar with peeps in the community here. 😁

You also joined the HIVE Blockchain and will earn rewards in HIVE as you grow your account. Plenty of time to learn and people are more than willing to help.

Most importantly, welcome aboard! Glad you came over to check things out. 👋

Welcome aboard @kate9981! I'm very glad to see people new people who've been onboarded by LeoFinance!

Some people's upvotes are indeed worth more than those of others. LeoFinance is a decentralized application built on the Hive blockchain, which has a reward system of its own. The value of each user's upvotes depends on how many staked tokens they have. Staking means making your liquid tokens non-transferable in exchange for voting power. That procedure is also called powering up. Staked or powered up tokens can also be powered down. But it takes four weeks to power down LEO. Hive Power takes 13 weeks to power down back into liquid HIVE. HIVE is the main currency on this platform and Hive Power is what gives a user voting power to be used in chain governance among other things.

The upvoting system is quite simple when it comes to LEO. You decide what percentage of your voting power, the upper limit of which is determined by your stake, you use each time you vote on a piece of content. Each vote depletes your available voting power, which replenishes at a constant rate. You can give 10 full-power votes per 24 hours while keeping up with the rate at which your voting power replenishes.

There are many more tokens other than LEO or the main token HIVE. LEO is one of the so-called Tribe tokens and LeoFinance is one of the Tribes, which are communities focused on a particular subject matter. Votes using staked Tribe token power are transactions sent to the blockchain, which the core chain software does not process at all. There is server called Scot bot that processes these transactions. You can access it at the following web site: hive-engine.com, on which there is also an internal market you can use to trade all the Tribe tokens. As you use the platform you will accrue many tokens usually without necessarily even knowing about it because you'll be interacting with posts and comments under specific Tribe tags. You can go to Hive Engine to look at what you have. :)

If you have more questions, feel free to ask! :)

Hey @kate9981! Welcome to LeoFinance

@jk6276 gave a great description of how the upvote economy works here:

  1. Users stake LEO in their wallet
  2. Upvotes are based on how much stake a user holds
  3. Rewards from posts/upvotes are split 50/50 to authors and curators
  4. Rewards are paid out every 7 days

Feel free to keep posting/jump in Discord and ask questions. The community is always around and happy to help 🦁

It’s not about the amount of upvotes it’s all about the amount of stake a user has that upvotes! So I have 6000 LEO staked and if I upvote someone they get 1 LEO

Also welcome to LEO and hope you take the time to learn and share your investment journey with us! Looks like you already earned your first few LEO already 😛
