Investing in Hive Tokens as a Newbie

in LeoFinance4 years ago

I am taking the leap and developing a plan to learn and invest in some of the amazing tokens Hive as to offer.

Anyone else join here to make money for their art and accidently be sucked into becoming an investor?? It's like the system itself force teaches you to hodl.

When I first joined I had no clue what staking was. In fact, it was only in the last year of learning that I had the ah ha moment that powering up was what other coins called staking...

Previously, I would power up 100% of my Hive earnings. I had no clue it was accumulating interest at that time! I just wanted to see my vote be worth more than .002! I really appreciate being able to see the APR now on Peakd

The first time I used my hive for anything other than delegating or powering up was because of the Rising Star game.

I'm a musician, am I really gonna turn away from a game made by other awesome musicians??? NO

So I bought packs with Hive, but being a math nerd I quickly realized the best thing to do was to buy STARBITS.... This was my first time using the https://hive-engine.com/ . I also got my Starbits Millionaire card because by holding 1 million STARBITS i get a free pack a day! This has worked well for me over time because at my current rank of 38, I'm getting .27 SWAP.HIVE a day!

To be honest, I became a Starbits Millionaire before we got a ranking bonus cause i just wanted them cards!

Now, because of the creation of https://www.musicforlife.io/ and aggroed's post https://peakd.com/hive/@aggroed/how-to-create-a-tribe-and-what-goes-into-it-a-guide-for-the-curious I am diving deep into understanding all the different tokens and how they work.

maybe i want to make my own???? hmmmm.... someday???

Music for Life was the first to bring Miner tokens to my attention. Knowing I was already getting VIBES token for the airdrop, I thought, why not get these VIBESM tokens. I got 7 and just this morning I got my first .6 VIBES return. ahhhhh, I get it now....

This is addicting.

So my plan is as follows:

  • all my post and curation earnings are still going to 100% Hive Power
  • but when i have extra money to invest I'm going to invest in Hive like I invest in Bitcoin and Alts.
50% to Hive and 50% to alts (hive tokens)

So I have begun with my small funds.

to be honest, this first investment is coming from my Steem that's still powering down every week bhahaha

First, I knew I needed to support the hive-engine itself. So I bought BEE and WORKERBEE (BEE Miner)

I already earn VIBES for music posts but will continue to add a little VIBESM as I go.

I had already invested in LEO, cause well leo, but these miners fascinate me so I got a LEOM. I imagine 1 LEOM will rarely mine, but gotta start somewhere

I had already bought WINE and BEER, but I won't add to these. I just wanted to enough to give to people. :)

and while studying token structures, I got interested in EDS. So I bought one. It's not a stake-able coin but I will get Hive every week?? interesting. wanted to see it in action.

got a snapshot just so I can compare later. still feels weird to me to be showing my investments, but it's all public anyway sooo i guess i need to get over that!

So what do you experienced hive investors think of this start? Don't let me give bad ideas to those newer than me!!!

Think I should give less to alts or more to a particular one? Am I missing one that is a must have??

I'm still learning so i'm excited to see how this goes

P.S. I also explored the new POB coin and got me some free #BULLSHIT coin too haha

P.S.S also...can i get away with this many tags??? I mean I think i fit all criteria but also don't want to over tag and be too greedy. I'm learning. just let me know. thanks.

YES! and it's fun too. The deeper I go the more impressed I am with the community here :)

I just came here to have a look and 3 years later I'm doing trades. Never would have thought but I learnt a lot. Yes, you can get away with that many tags. What is this BEE tag about? Please tell me more.

right!? Not only am I learning a lot, but the community is more trusty worthy with info compared to jungle of the internet!

The Bee tag is just a regular tag i wanted to use. Not part of a tribe (that i know of?). I wanted to support it because it's the native token of the Hive-Engine, a pretty valuable addition to Hive :)

100% i love how most people here are chilled and super helpful. It's not a competition. This is so refreshing to real life sometimes.

is it the same as the workerbee token? so no prerequisites to use. you just tag to support?

The workerbee is the the miner and future governance token. The tag does nothing. Its a regular tag. I supported by buying and staking both tokens bee and beeworker. I just used the tag for categorization purposes. :)

Aaah okay. Thanks for the explanation. There are just so many tokens. And too many to keep up with.

Absolutely brilliant post my friend!
Really insightful for all of us newbies here. I'm really excited about the future of Music For Life and the whole Hive Engine Tokenomics but still have loads to learn.

Thanks! I'm excited too!

I think I am where you at a while ago! It is good fun and I love the game but I also make a living from music so if it is possible to earn a little bit that would be fab, it is also a nice community here that I am getting to know!

In my opinion, the best music supporting community on all platforms! Less "look at me, look at me" and more "let's raise each other up". love it

Good post bruv, I want my life back though 😃

Yeah this whole blockchain thing is both amazing in it's potential and terrible in it's ability to suck you in completely. I have to be careful lately or I'll spend 16 hours a day just reading and watching videos and discussing about all things crypto and not actually create anything. I'm pretty sure it will pay off in the end though. unless we have to use some sort of worldwide emf pulse to liberate ourselves from our machine overlords and go back to good old barter and trade. then I guess it was all a waste ;)

I agree! I spent my whole evening learning about different tokens and at bed time i thought, i can't let this go to waste! post!
So, i stayed up way past my bedtime to get this written!

if post-apocalypse off grid world happens, we must agree to wear shirts with our hive names on it so we can find each other in the wild hahah

but really overall, my goal is to get enough passive income with all this crypto stuff just SO i can spend more time outside :)

Posted Using LeoFinance Beta

exactly. I'd like to be able to get a wee bit of land and grow food and have some passive income coming in from the digital world.

I definitely like the idea of shirts with our hive accounts on them. also with our profile picture on a hat.

Hey hey @junkfeathers! Taking the leap of faith on Hive-Engine! It's an exciting world I have to say, so much going on you can easily get lost in there but I also have some VIBESM since the launch and really chuffed about the VIBES token too. Nice work on being a millionaire haha!

Good start I'd say, slowly but surely it builds. I'd say there are other tokens you can buy that you just hold and get daily dividends like BRO, DHEDGE in Hive-engine tokens too. Plenty to get stuck in to but if you have any questions, let me know!

Posted Using LeoFinance Beta

Hey thanks! I got lucky with Starbits. When i bought my million it was only around $40 and it's double that now :D

Thanks for the tip on BRO and DHEDGE. I haven't even heard of DHEDGE yet. I will certainly check those out. I'm really fascinated by it all
