Carretillas de Arena // Sand Carts

El mundo del emprendimiento es una carrera donde si te paras puedes perder, cuando quieres algo de verdad tienes prohibido rendirte. La diferencia es que en esta carrera no importa quien llegue de primero o quien llegue de segundo, pues a la verdad es una carrera muy continua, y lo único que importa es llegar.

The world of entrepreneurship is a race where if you stop you can lose, when you really want something you are forbidden to give up. The difference is that in this race it doesn't matter who comes in first or who comes in second, because in truth it is a very continuous race, and the only thing that matters is to get there.

Hoy viví una pequeña experiencia que si les soy sincero es bastante común para mí, pero que quise compartirla con ustedes.

Today I lived a little experience that if I am honest with you is quite common for me, but I wanted to share it with you.

En Venezuela ya comenzó el periodo lluvioso, y anoche como bienvenida de este periodo llovió muy fuerte, tan fuerte que la lluvia arrastró hasta al rededor de mi casa mucha arena. Hoy como de costumbre me pare temprano y no tuve más opción que quedarme en mi casa, pues tenía muchas ocupaciones puesto que soy el único hombre (vivo con mi abuela, mi madre, mi hermana, mi esposa y mi hijo de 3años). Entre esas ocupaciones había que sacar toda esa arena para que no obstruyera el paso del agua en caso de que volviera a llover.

In Venezuela the rainy season has already started, and last night as a welcome of this period it rained very hard, so hard that the rain dragged a lot of sand around my house. Today as usual I stopped early and I had no choice but to stay at home, because I had many occupations since I am the only man (I live with my grandmother, my mother, my sister, my wife and my 3 year old son). Among these occupations I had to remove all that sand so that it would not obstruct the passage of water in case it rained again.

Pensé en que sería algo fácil, de hecho tenía mucho entusiasmo porque me gusta trabajar muy diligentemente. Tome mi carreta y mi pala y comencé a sacar la arena. Al pasar los minutos me dí cuenta de que era más arena de lo que pensaba, y lo que creí que era 3 o 4 carretillas que sacaría, se convirtieron en 11.

I thought it would be easy, in fact I was very enthusiastic because I like to work very diligently. I took my wheelbarrow and shovel and began to dig out the sand. As the minutes passed I realized that it was more sand than I thought, and what I thought was 3 or 4 wheelbarrows that I would take out, became 11.

Al terminar mi trabajo, algo cansado, me puse a meditar en todo lo que se convirtió eso que creí era un trabajo rápido.

When I finished my work, a little tired, I started to meditate on what I thought was a quick job.

Les puedo decir que como joven emprendedor también llegué a creer en un principio que rápidamente vería mis proyectos convertirse en éxitos, pero durante 5 años he tenido que seguir cargando muchas carretillas. En unos casos he tenido que detenerme a descansar un poco, pero no para abandonar.

I can tell you that as a young entrepreneur I also came to believe at the beginning that I would quickly see my projects become successes, but for 5 years I have had to carry many wheelbarrows. In some cases I have had to stop to rest for a while, but not to give up.

Vivir e invertir en un país como Venezuela es algo bastante difícil, sobre todo porque si no le llevas el ritmo a la "inflación" entonces podrías quedarte sin capital. Ya eso me ha pasado, por eso debemos conocer muy bien el terreno donde estamos pasando con la carretilla (el tipo de negocio en el que invertimos), y tener presente que si se rompe la rueda debes cambiarla hasta acabar con toda la arena (invertir en algo donde te sientas cómodo).

Living and investing in a country like Venezuela is quite difficult, especially because if you do not keep up with the "inflation" then you could run out of capital. That has already happened to me, that is why we must know very well the terrain where we are passing with the wheelbarrow (the type of business in which we invest), and keep in mind that if the wheel breaks you must change it until you finish with all the sand (invest in something where you feel comfortable).
