1/🧵

Impromptu #threadstorm on how I manually publish #huntingmidnight serial stories.

I have the story parts ready to go on a program called Scrivener. I copy-paste a section to Google Docs for potential #nft book formatting.

Sort:

2/🧵

Next, template-execution. I also have cover image designed in Canva. I make a copy, change the name, advance the Part number, pick a new icon. Download the image.

3/🧵

I find the last part I published, open up its edit pane in Ecency. Copy-paste into a new post, copy-paste title, change title for the new part. Copy URL of last part.

Scrolling up, I replace the "Last" nav with the URL I just copied.

4/🧵

Adjust the "continued in" part, then delete all the story. I replace this with a placeholder, usually something like "werds" so I can find it easier.

Change the H2, change the other Last nav, replace image.

5/🧵

Next I copy the Google Doc story into Microsoft Word, coz I have to add manual hard returns else Hive's editor smushes all the paragraphs together.

Find replace with this handy formula:

  • Find ^p
  • Replace with: ^l^l

6/🧵

The result can be copied into the Hive/Ecency editor w/ paragraphing preserved. Next I have to hunt for italics and manually reapply because Word and Docs won't translate the markdown over. Annoying!

7/🧵

I add tags to the post and place it in #scholarandscribe. The Peakd Template system would save me this step, but I like Ecency points & it takes me like 20s to do so I make that tradeoff, lol.

Next: double check all the stuff.

8/🧵

Tinker with advanced settings:

  • Set 100% bene to @jfuji.writes
  • Edit short description
  • Auto-reblog on

Peakd template only helps with the first and last bit, so again, Ecency points > 10s it saves me ha.

9/🧵

Triple check all settings, hit publish! Not done yet:

  • Copy new URL
  • Edit last part to include this URL in the NEXT nav
  • Update index with new URL
  • Shill new URL on a few Discord Channels
  • Shill new part here in Threads :)

10/🧵

Now we're done! (Unless there's an NFT Bookmark to make but that's a different process).

Seems like a lot, but it usually only takes me 5–10 mins, and gives me the opportunity to do last minute edits on the story.

That was a great thread. I must admit that your Story parts always look so professional.

Great way you do things. The Word and Google docs annoying I agree about the non formatting. Going to bookmark this thread!

Hope it works...

your Story parts always look so professional.

Hey, thank you! I do try and make sure the formatting is polished for a good Reader experience :)

One day maybe someone will automate the process for me, but for now this works!

Yes. first impressions count too.
