Shorty horror story before I got into crypto abstinence mode again:

About two weeks ago I fell for a social engineering scam that involved a crypto game called Magical World but it took a few minutes to realize what I got into...

Sort:

I am 99% sure that my Hive keys are safe but I can't risk it. In the next few days I'll need to create an "investment" account because I want to power up a ton of Leo with ARB profits but doing so on this account doesn't seem smart.

Decentralizing your accounts is a great way to protect your holdings. Have the assets spread in different wallets removes the honeypot.

Everyone should consider it. It is more work to manage but a safeguard.

Exactly what I did here but you can't transfer token claims for airdrops lol

Gonna start decentralizing on Hive as well. Just need more free time to do it properly.

No those are locked in. But getting the other liquid assets is a benefit.

Smart move in my opinion. I am doing the same thing on a small scale.

FWIW this is a new trend in the scammer world since it is much easier to trick people into thinking a sponsorship is legit. Even the Linus Tech Tips team fell for a very similar one:

fuck. tell me the whole story bro.

The blockchain is not my friend today. I think all comments are finally posted lol

Oooh... One of my rules is to NEVER invest in any project I haven't studied and taken part in the community for at least a week - usually, more than that.

It could be beneficial for you to adopt such a stance.

Their website looked legit. The discord server was packed but the conversations were a bit odd. I deal with a ton of BS projects this wasn't an immediate red flag. Projects pay people to talk in the chat just to keep the channel active.

As soon as I ran the file I knew there was no going back and just a few days later Arbitrum announces the airdrop. 7 days of anxiety and uncertainty had a happy ending but I still don't know what these bitches have on me now.

I got a DM from this person with a proposition to write a review for this fake game. My concentration was at an all time low but I still did SOME research.

One thing leads to another, I download the "game" and run it on a PC that has a few hot wallets on it. The wallets hold very little funds on them but most of them were eligible for the Arbitrum airdrop...

There was very little sensitive info on the PC and I wiped the drives as soon as I figured out what is going on. My main concern was the keystore file that was present on one of the hard drives.
