Halving is an event that occurs so that fewer and fewer Bitcoins are issued, this is done with the purpose of increasing the value of the cryptocurrency, thanks to supply and demand. El Halving es un evento que ocurre para que cada vez se emitan menos Bitcoin, esto se hace con el propósito de que el valor de la criptomoneda aumente, gracias a la oferta y demanda. Si se reduce a la mitad la recompensa que los mineros solían generar previo al Halving, éstos buscarán vender esos Bitcoins más caros para que así siga siendo rentable su actividad. De esta forma, cada vez se minará menos cantidad de Bitcoins, hasta que un día llegue a su finita cantidad establecida. Actualmente existen unas 19.178.331 monedas en circulación, y en total habrá un máximo de 21.000.000.
El Halving ocurre exactamente cada 210.000 bloques minados, que es aproximadamente cada 4 años, pero no es posible saber con exactitud cada cuanto tiempo sucederá. Los anteriores Halvings fueron en los años 2012, 2016 y 2020. Es por ello que se estima que el siguiente Halving de Bitcoin suceda durante el segundo trimestre del año 2024.
