I find it odd that so many seem to think than an LLM could become sentient when the entire design is just to mimic the data we spoonfeed it. Much like the theory of gravity, we barely understand what sentience even is or how it is created/manipulated. To think we are accidentally going to stumble into the answer seems... lofty.
LLMs have the appearance of intelligence and I feel like it's really throwing people off.
All I see is an advanced data processor.
We honestly haven't even done anything cool with it yet.
It's more important to focus on the "Artificial" attribute of AI, rather than "Intelligence". Synonyms for "Artificial":
synthetic, unreal, unnatural, insincere, contrived, bogus, counterfeit, phoney, fabricated, factitious, faked, false, feigned, imitation, not genuine, sham, spurious, synthetic, simulated, man-made, manufactured.
AI will always be Artificial.
