#Russia has officially announced the first #BRICS Olympic Games in 2024, from June 20th to 23rd, so just before the IOC's Paris games. 4,5k athletes are forecast to take part.

Even during the cold war, such an initiative hadn't existed!!

Sort:

No but you did have the US and the Soviets boycotts the game in the country of the other.

I believe the US did it in 1980 and the Soviets did it in 1984.

Yeah, Moscow & Los Angeles

That's good to hear! 🐸

Sounds good! That should be a choice for all the BRICS countries, to either join that Russia organized one or join the free world Olympic Games.

Actually, it did. Unhappy over not being invited to 1920 Olympics in Antwerp, Soviet Russia through Comintern organised Spartakiads, which were held between 1928 and 1937. USSR took part in regular Olympics in 1952.

In 1986 Ted Turner, unhappy over 1980 and 1984 Olympic boycotts, organised Goodwill Games with the specific purpose of allowing US and Soviet athletes to compete against each other.
