A cybersecurity breach led to the leakage of data from 2.6 million Duolingo users, including email addresses and proprietary information. The data was extracted from public profiles using an exposed API and was listed for sale on a forum.

This barely raises an eyebrow anymore.

Sad how we are so accustomed to hacks and data breaches these days.

What recourse do we have if we like using the app?

Not much we can do besides using spoofed / alternate email addresses for everything.

I knew that green bird was crazy, but I didn't know it was dark web crazy!

Seems to be the case. We, as users, tend to have no recourse.

Our almost only recourses are preventive ones, imo. And yes, @ducecrypto , to use addresses created on privacy-oriented email services (like tutanota, proton, etc) - or, even better, on a self-hosted server - and related to specific apps.
