I haven't used mainstream media for years but I miss the size and variety of communities there. Much easier to get something going there with like-minded individuals but I couldn't stand all the crap you had to wade through too.

We each have to decide what works for us. Network effects are very powerful. I still use FB as I need to stay in touch with certain people and I'll keep my Twtr account for now.
