Ain't That A Pick In The Head!

in LeoFinance3 days ago

Yesterday was fun. Seriously, how often do you get to say that as an adult? To even have some fun it feels like you have to do a million things first, plan the fun, by the time you get to the planned fun you are exhausted and spend the supposed fun time wishing for your comfy cozy bed.

Maybe that's just me...

Anyway, yesterday morning I got up and absolutely crushed my school work. I worked like a mad woman for 4 and half hours straight, writing, commenting, and reading like a boss hopped up on apple sauce.

Ah. I invoked the word of the post, apples.

You see, yesterday was apple picking day! We have a friend in a neighboring burg, the most amazing Mr. C, a man in his late eighties, or maybe even early nineties at this point, who lets us come glean his apple orchard every year! We love Mr. C!

Okay, we love him aside from the apples, he helps the hubs run his rifle shooting program, was a forest ranger in the old days, and is the most amazing soul ever who still skis almost every day in the winter! Dude's hardcore.

Back to the apples, what made apple picking so dang fun was that we picked up a couple of kids who are on the hub's rifle team to go picking with us. The brother and sister were like a combination of Laurel and Hardy, The Three Stooges, and Terrance and Phillip.

I laughed. A lot.

Right out of the gate the apple throwing started. The hubs and those heathens let the soggy apples that were adorning the ground loose with astonishing accuracy. I was largely unscathed. I know not why. Both of the kids seem to be a little bit in awe of me for reasons unknown. It makes me wonder what tales the hubs has told his rifle team kids about this Kat. Hmmm...

Before long we had stripped the trees of the good apples that had remained and gathered all the deadfalls that were still useable off of the ground. The hubs takes a couple hundred pounds or so of seconds apples every year and makes cider of the hard and soft variety. He also turns the peels into apple cider vinegar. Have I said that I like him before?

Me, I take the good apples and can applesauce, caramel apple jelly, apple butter, and apple pie filling. We both are fairly competent at our apple jobs these days.

But the kids, they were the most competent at their task, which was humor. There was an orchard ladder present, but as is the way in apple picking, the most glorious apples were all but unreachable.

So of course sister climbed up on brother's shoulders and they gave collecting the best apples a go.

The insults they threw at each other were so glorious that by the time we loaded all the crates on Rufus's flatbed for the trip to the range for practice and then home, I was in pain from laughing at their antics. We picked them apples too, but I was wondering if they would make it home, it was just too tempting to have projectiles handy for them to throw at each other.

They also delighted in taking unflattering snaps of the hubs and snapchatting them to all the rifle team kids and our son. That activity continued after picking and at the local hamburger joint we took them to for a snack. They especially delighted in showing me the pictures and loudly saying how the hub's jawline was just so unfortunate in design.

Like I said, these kids are savage.

So savage in fact that you can tell they adore the hubs. After our snack we stopped to picked up another team member, a delightful child the hubs calls Bubbles. The ride from Bubble's house to the gun range is about three miles. In the back of the truck we had the brother, sister, Bubbles, and two crates of apples we had the kids pick for their mom. I am still not sure how we made it to the range, but my abs got a great workout from giggling and guffawing.

I don't go to rifle team practice a lot. It's the hub's realm and I usually have a million things to do, but on the nights I do go, I am reminded of just how much effort he puts into coaching the kids, and just how much they adore him. They love to try to gaslight him, steal his pens, they drew pictures on my foam drink cup and told me that I was too pretty to be married to the hubs, to which I just replied that I cast a spell on him over two decades ago so it's him you should feel sorry for. The kids can't possibly seem to understand that I have Snapchat, or know what GYATT means.

Yep, I might like those kids too. They are a lot of fun, and I appreciate people who value roasting others all in good natured fun.

It's pretty great to sit around with teens and their parents and interact without stress. That on the other side of the viewing glass there is Olympic level rifle training going on also just awes me.

Like I said, yesterday, it was just FUN!

And as most of the time, all of the images in this post were taken on the author's now in apple flavor, scent, and texture iPhone.

that was a nice post, to be honest when i 1st saw that beautiful red fruit hanging on the tree - i wasn't sure it was an apple -i thought of apples, prunus, fig, probably because i've never caught apples from trees before, on the tree they look a little different from how they look at the supermarkets, anyway it seems delicious & of course fresh. i think it's ok for fun to b planned sometimes but extra planning usually leaves no much place for fun, i think it can coexist with what i think is important "the just live the moment" type of fun. i don't think it's just u who find it hard to resist sleeping after the long work hours, hence missing much fun & trying to plan the fun on weekends, i think maybe half adults r facing such situation. MR.C n late 80s- early 90s & taking care of his apple trees & even skiing most of winter days -that's really amazing & wonderful that f he had a social media channel -millions will join looking for the healthy lifestyle tricks. it's obvious that it was an amazing fun day for u & of course for the kids & that u enjoyed it a lot. finally i hope u will b able to have such fun more often, it was a nice post -well done & have a good day.

It was a glorious time, and yes, MR. C should totally have his own social media channel, I would love that for him😊

I hope we both have fun more often, thank you so much for dropping by and leaving such an awesome comment! Have a fantastic day!

There's nothing like a good dose of crazy teenage humor for a good laugh! I find myself getting 'way too old and stuffy nowadays.

I will never, ever think of you as old and stuffy! And I agree, their energy is infectious (okay, and sometimes repellant, but that's just when I need a nap lol!)
