I think those factors were a reason, but I think you forgot to also add in the PPP loans. I heard quite a few people scammed, but it added quite a bit of cash into the economy during the covid period.

I can live with sideways. Buys me more time to fine tune my investment plans picking my choice stocks and ETFs to pile in when the moment comes. For now it’s small DCAs.
Like Mr Buffet, I have a big chunk of RRSP/IRA Retirement savings cash in short term notes waiting for a crash(s).
My Gold Stack is the same policy, it’s meant to pass on as a family legacy and asset. I hope not to need it.

I also have my retirement account in short term treasuries! Earning about 4.5 % right now, it was 5%
It pays as a dividend once a month instead of every quarter so that’s cool.

Most of the smoke goes east, sometimes blows south from the interior of BC but so far there has only the odd day or two that has been a raised level of Air Quality alert. It's the air blowing in from the Pacific ocean.
