HIVE Power Up Day in the Context of Recent Pushes to Keep More of Your Rewards

in LeoFinance18 days ago (edited)

We have a decentralized blockchain, even though, at times, people are wondering if it's really like that. But different people, including whales, focus on different aspects of the blockchain and its ecosystem. And they see good or bad things where they focus on. Which means other people might focus on those areas or see things the other way around.

For a good while enough people have been complaining that we are hemorrhaging funds through the DHF. It's likely this discussion, while probably very true in some cases, didn't make people at the receiving end very happy. Then the Splinterlands DHF proposal came to make things even more complicated.

So, I imagine discussions have been carried out, because we've seen some effects:

  • the drop in APR for HBD in savings to 15%
  • appeals to stop converting HBD to HIVE at the bottom (and swap them using the internal market instead)
  • and now, authors and the use of their rewards started to be analyzed (and advised to keep more as HP)

Personally, I agree with all of them, in context. But the context is hard to define.

For example, in the long term, increasing my HIVE Power is my first priority on HIVE. My actions in the short to medium term may not reflect that, or it may seem way too slow (including to myself), because that's the path I have chosen.

I have two small accounts where I have made temporary investments on Hive-Engine this year, starting from HIVE. As of two weeks ago (couldn't update last week due to being sick), my virtual ROI in HIVE on the two accounts is 69.13% and 30.04%, respectively, so better than curation and HBD interest combined. Both of them will return to HIVE and, at some point, probably going through HBD, to HP.

I assume we might have similar cases and other types of situations with others that are hard to catch statistically.

I have my staking account at @gadrian-sp currently, which I grow very slowly because I temporarily want to push some HP to my posting account. My staking account(s), and yes, I plan for multiple ones, is what I call my long term HP holdings. I won't say I'll never power them down, because I learned that using absolute words doesn't leave room for alternatives, but it is one of the actions I'd be thinking about last, to power my staking accounts down. I am here to stay.

For some days now, I’ve been doing a daily power up of 1HP and I know the little things matter
In two weeks now, I’d be having 2HP daily power ups and I will continue to increase it with time

That seems like a good plan. Congrats on your consistency!

I am here to stay as well, however, I doubt we are at a 100% decentralized blockchain...

Yeah... nothing is fully decentralized, not even bitcoin. Full decentralization means chaos, while full centralization means dictatorship. Neither is great, but something in between is better than both. Now, it's all a matter of fine tuning and various components and the degree of decentralization in them.

Happy hive power up day, a good plan for hive is for the long ride, happy New month as well, continue to have a good time 🥰🙏

Thanks for the kind words! Happy power up day!

Thanks so much, I appreciate 🥰🙏

I am quite neutral about these discussions personally. While I haven't powered down any Hive before and don't plan to do so in the near future, I don't have any issues if there are people who want to do so for personal reasons.

But who knows if Hive become 3 dollars at some point? I guess the good thing is, everyone knows of the risk that is accompanied with powering down Hive, and one has to weigh the pros and cons.

Well, it may carry a different vibe when someone powers down to fund another crypto project, and nothing returns back to Hive. But otherwise, I don't have anything against them either. In fact, I use them to move stake from one account to another, or to take profit (this one I have to do, haven't done it yet during previous cycle, and here I am, regretting now).

It's great to hear that you're here for the long haul, @gadrian! It's funny, even with HIVE being so low in fiat value, I haven't been converting HBD to HIVE at all. All HBD that I receive goes into Savings. 15% APR is still far better than anything in the fiat world! 😁 🙏 💚 ✨ 🤙

We all have our strategy here. I kept the little HBD I have too, because I don't want to be completely out of it, but I expect toward the end of the bull to increase my stash considerably.

That is for sure, and it's fascinating to see just how different those strategies can be! That's great! I've been steadily growing my holding for most of my time here, and I'll just keep going. I hope to make some big deposits at some point, too. May it be so! 😁 🙏 💚 ✨ 🤙

Indeed, we can see many approaches. Much like there are many different communities on Hive and each one has its ways.

It's was an interesting month of August where a lot of people actually focused on the DHF discussion, I think the market generally contributes to this fraustration.

The market certainly contributes to the frustration. With Hive at 50-75 cents people would have been waay more relaxed now. But that's how things go with small caps.

Everyone has different goals and I think that people should keep more HP. I do know that things could happen and you might need money to cover expenses every now and then. However, we are all here on the chain and having more HP never hurts.

Yes, I agree, people should focus on their influence on the chain. But something equally important if we want to be able to trade outside the ecosystem is liquidity and LPs. And there is almost zero focus on that from the community. We remain happy with our enormous liquidity on the few CEXes, which can go away... like that (the listings, I mean).
