I'd like to see this as an available option for everyone, in addition to traditional medicine (hopefully in a system that's more friendly to patients and less intermingled with the terror caused by middlemen such as insurance companies)

Well, i believe this is possible. To bring it into being, we need to use a Decentralised Cause Funding platform which uses Matrix-8 type Community Governance. To get it off the ground, to begin i think we need 50 people to commit to c. 3-4 hours per week.
