Finally, Twitter confirms the sale of the company to Elon Musk for a sweet $44 billion. People are posting all sorts of bullshit on social media about this takeover. Especially the ones who think he is the messiah of 'Freedom of Speech' who is going to make it the platform we all want it to be. By taking it private? 😂 Fuck no! Musk doesn't give a shit about anyone's right to free speech because there have been several instances where he did extreme things to the people who went against him. Do you think he changed suddenly? Just google it and read so many stories that could bring out his hypocrisy. He has been a little intolerant of the free speech of his own employees. It seems like he wants to do better for the platform and its users but the reality might be far from this. You cannot become a billionaire without crushing a few people down the line. Moreover, he has continuously tried to control the narrative in the media about himself and his businesses.
In this blog, I will discuss the real reason why He wants to take over Twitter. But before that, let's have a brief look at Tesla's Marketing strategy. Why? You will know why!
Tesla's Marketing Strategy
As of April 2022, Tesla has a market cap of $1.031 Trillion which makes it the world's 6th largest company and the largest company in automobile manufacturing. It is definitely not like any other car company. Tesla owners can be compared to Apple owners when it comes to brand loyalty. This is the kind of relationship Tesla has established with its customers in the past 20 years or so.
Let me tell you an interesting fact, being the largest car company in the world, Tesla has nearly a ZERO marketing budget. It has no CMO or even a marketing team. They have hired no agency to do their brand-building & promotions. Its marketing strategy majorly revolves around the following:
- Providing the best customer experience as compared to its competitors
- Usage of technology to create a world-class futuristic product
- Word of mouth marketing through a strong referral program
- Elon Musk's Social Media Influence
Power of Social Media
In this blog, I will talk only about Musk's influence on Social media platforms, especially Twitter. His personality is unavoidable! Even after being the richest person in the world and creating so many successful companies, his inner child stays. He has a habit of saying a lot with a few words & memes. His tweets create controversies and move markets. He knows his way to social media and how to handle his enormous audience of 83.8m followers on Twitter. It's used mostly by the younger generation that understands the language of internet slang and memes and Elon understands this fact very well.
He has slowly created a name for himself and whether people like him or not, they react to what he says. Just like everyone is reacting to his Twitter Takeover including myself. 😂 He is saying he is not buying Twitter to make money but I am 100% sure he will make a lot of it. The man wants to build a colony on mars! I agree with him though. Money is not his major concern, in reality, he doesn't want to lose his influence to a centralized social media platform. Anyone would hate that kind of dependency and that's why all of us are on Hive. We don't want to be screwed by Facebook & other Web2 platforms. I wonder when Donald Trump is joining us. If you have such a huge following, people are going to listen to what you have to say even if they like it or not. That's the power of social media. Musk doesn't want to lose that power.
Why Does Musk Wants Full Control?
He was offered a board seat, right? But he rejected it. Any board member cannot buy more than 14.9% of shares. That really means that you can't push your agenda as a board member. Twitter as a company would listen to your suggestions but not necessarily enforce them. They are not obligated to do so! A board seat is as good as nothing for him. Full control on the platform will allow him to do whatever he wants that could suit himself and his businesses of course. Obviously, no one is going to shadow ban him on his own platform! The takeover omits that risk completely.
The narrative that Twitter will be a free speech platform after Musk's takeover is not digestible to me. Twitter is beyond saving! It cannot become a true WEB 3 platform anytime soon. Moreover, there is a race going on. We already have so many decentralized alternatives that would grow only bigger in the upcoming years. On Twitter, a creator earns nothing and also has the risk of getting banned. Decentralized Social platforms introduce DeFi, monetization & censorship resistance at the base level. Do you really think Twitter will be able to match all that because now Musk owns it?

This was my best guess based on the research I did on him. I studied Tesla's marketing strategy when I did social media marketing for a local Electric scooter company last year. I was baffled to see how Tesla build a brand without any marketing budget. They definitely have an in-house strategy that works better than others who are spending a shit ton of money on paid campaigns.
The persona of Elon Musk on social media made Tesla more popular than its competitors. I don't even know who owns Ford, Mercedes, BMW, or Volkswagen, not even Indian brands. But I know what Tesla is and who Elon is. He just got more powerful by acquiring Twitter. This could be one of the many reasons, if not the main one.

Any talk about why Elon bought Twitter currently is still speculative and only Elon will tell us why after about a year or two but not at the moment. Currently, he will just be feeding us with what he wants u to believe but for me, I believe he bought Twitter because it is visible that Twitter has the numbers both active and available. Every person that matters has a Twitter account and that matters a lot when it comes to understanding people and what they want as well as influence. We have seen Elon using his influence to manipulate the market in recent times using Twitter, and so I do not believe that he is buying Twitter for the good of free speech.

Even I think on similar lines @gbenga. Twitter is the best place to communicate with the world quickly and effectively. He is much more powerful now. By the time deal completes in the next few months and the transition is over, he will have much more influence than ever before. Maybe a 100M Twitter followers! That's a lot!

I think that's all a happy bonus for him. Tesla is a robotics and AI company that is looking to power and run your home. They use their huge fleet of customer cars to map roads to train for autonomous driving.
Twitter is an information super hub unlike any other in the world moving at the speed of light every language and dialect and symbol in real time with every single thing gong on in the world in bitesized chunks. Billions of thoughts a day being uploaded as we have them.
It's value to an AI company moving into humanoid robotics is infinite. This also instantly puts him on the same level as google, amazon, Microsoft, and apple when it comes to number of users and data harvesting abilities. He wasn't going to get that selling high priced cars.
That's how I see it anyway.

Very interesting view on it i have read multiple for and against Elon for this purchase.
Truth is we do not really know what he will do with it.
It could be some big money making scheme it could be to control speech or any other number of reasons floating out there.
Some people are losing their minds over this but the truth is the deal is not actually done yet, it takes months to be finalised and then it will be months before any real changes are made.
This could be a good thing, got to be open minded, i don't see an evil genius in Elon Musk plus Twitter is dying anyway cause it hasn't captured the youth.
Plus there is not free speech now on Twitter anyway and i am wondering is there really free speech anywhere these day.
I think it is lie people tell themselves they have to give themselves comfort and a sense of power.
I have seen people muted and cast out on blockchains too so don't really know where free speech comes into it, when it doesn't exist in the first place.
