Before deciding on brand, decide if it's operating system will be iOS or Android. If it's going to be iOS, then you just self-selected for Apple's iPhone and you're done. Then it's a matter of deciding which model.
If you want Android, then more effort is needed before making a buying decision.
For myself, most of my devices were from Samsung. Samsung offers a wide variety of phones for nearly every kind of phone user. Usually the controls are in the right place, and that helps a lot (I'm not a fan of the power button being on the back side). Due to the wide array of Samsung phones, it's easy to find used phones affordably priced.

Yes of course, with IOS it is much easier.
My goal is to have a samsung but high end, I currently have a BLU.

Apple because I just like my tech to be plug and play.
Android is a bit more complex and just frustrates me.

Android and if it has enough CPU/features that I need. I can settle even if I am just losing a few extra features.
