Exclusive SPI Sale
We're nearly there. Start counting down ... 🤑
The exclusive SPI sale for Saturday Savers in March. There are 300 SPI put aside for Saturday Savers Club members to buy through the year. We are going to do it on a subscription basis so you can plan your purchases across the whole year. We're still finalising the details, but the minimum weekly subscription is likely to be 1.13 HIVE.
The sales is exclusive to Savers who are registered on the Savers Chart. Are you there? Are you dilly-dallying? You have two more chances (this week and next week) to get on the Chart and qualify for the sale.
February No-Buy Month
How are you getting on with the No-Buy Month? There's some good tips in the comments in last week's post. Seven Savers won an HSBI Yay! Thank you everyone for taking part.
What's a No-Buy Month All About?
If you're new to the No-Buy idea, this is a great way to review your expenses and give a boost to your savings. You can make it as big or as small as you want. Maybe you want to pick a small goal, like taking packed lunches to work everyday if you normally eat out, and then putting aside the money you save. You could try it for a day, a week or the rest of February.
No-Buy is a little bit of a misnomer, Low-Buy might be better but it doesn't have quite the same dramatic effect! 😍 What No-Buy means is that you take more notice of what you are spending and look at how you can reduce it.
You can still buy essentials - food (😜), transport, replacements and repairs. You can also set a budget for treats or things that you know you want to buy like HIVE or LEO for power-ups.
It can be an opportunity to explore new things. For example, using your local library. Our libraries here have free wifi, spaces to work, huge electonic resources of free magazines and newspapers, audio and e-books. Maybe build in a trip to the library once a week as an alternative to going shopping.
How to do a No-Buy Month
Set a budget for the No-Buy period with rules about what you can and can't buy. This will be individual to each person - you might have birthdays or celebrations or events coming up that you need to build into your allowed expenses budget.
You might have some habits that you want to change - I like walking to my local shop, but you know, I may only need a loaf of bread but I will always come out with about £30 of shopping! When I started No-Buy months, I decided to tackle that habit!
Here's an example of a budget for February:
ALLOWED EXPENSES - what you can buy
- Food - but aiming to finish up packets, tins and jars in the pantry, food in the freezer and from the garden.
- Essential toiletries and housekeeping replacements.
- Essential repairs or replacements.
- Valentine's Day treat.
- 1 coffee/meal with friends each week.
- Postage and/or carriage.
- Travel or fuel.
NO-NO-BUY - definitely do not buy these!
- No shop-bought non-essential treats.
- No books, stationary, yarn, fabric or notions.
- No "new" (ie not replacements) clothes.
- No "new" (ie not replacements) furniture, household items, telecoms.
- No seeds or plants or houseplants or cut flowers.
You can set yourself a goal of how much you'd like to save during the month - maybe 10% of household expenses.
And that's it - before you know it, it's 1 March and you've a nice little nest egg put aside (could be your SPI budget - just sayin' 😂).

Laeg (my betta fish) has been eating and swimming around more, so that's been cheering me up too (he's been sick for a while).
And I finished another section of Forever Blanket, I thought it might be the last one but it's actually the next-to-last I think, ha ha, and another section has been started to hopefully finish! That will be a huge project completed when it's done, so that's feeling good as well. :)
Finally 10K. Wow, what a great feeling, isn't it to reach your goal. Now, you can put 2023 behind you and soar toward 2024 goals. That's a good cheery upper, I'd say.

LowBuy February is really difficult for me to implement. That's simply because I rarely spend money and have already "automated" a lot.
Nevertheless, I have already managed to consciously avoid unnecessary small expenses several times!
Otherwise, I normally stay within my self-imposed limits.

Okay, I see now. Yes, HIVE is definitely the "base token" of our Hive blockchain. Without it, likely we would not be here! 😉
Yes, agreed. That said, for myself as an investor, the answer comes down to which tokens offer the best ROI and yet remain within my risk tolerance limits. There are lots and lots of these Hive-based L2 tokens, but I believe only a few of them are worthy of serious consideration.
Of the ones you list, I like EDS. And have EDSD as one of my savings objectives, since I can readily convert it back into HBD, if for some reason that became necessary. Both of them are designed to work together to generate more HIVE income, so ...

I think so too. There are some good alternatives. Unfortunately, I find exactly this interaction between L2 tokens and HIVE (here) really difficult. With the different courses, some of which are very controversial. But somehow that's what makes it so charming.
I try to diversify a bit, that definitely never hurts. At the same time, I can still improve in all areas.
I think my selection is good and offers me a good cash flow. Everything else will come with time!

Hello Savers. Hope you had a productive week. Congratulations to @alonicus and @sylmarill for winning EDS.
I'm saving for the March purchase of SPI and trying to decide how much my weekly subscription amount will be.
What's cheering me up this week?
My progress in the February No-Buy Month, of course. I'm do well utilizing my pantry and freezer to cook meals. Yesterday, I pulled out the freezer a rice dish I prepared last month. I added a frozen pack of soup vegetables, added sauteed onions, spices, Then toasted garlic bread and salad, and voila! a repurposed meal. Hubby said it was delicious. That's all that mattered in the cool weather that blew in.
1 Dining Out Meal = @21.69
Below is my Week 7 SSC activity:
Earning 82 HP in rewards was awesome for one week. Also, I was able to save the recommended 3.71 HBD into savings. I purchased 3 EDSD.

Hello @roleerob. Easy indeed, especially when my hubby surprises me on his return home, even when I've already planned a meal. It's a struggle keeping him out of the grocery stores and fast food places. I finally put my foot down starting 2024, so he's doing a bit better.
For my No-buy month, each time he leaves the house, I remind him NOT to return with food, lolol. Still sneaked one in last week.
For the SPI, I'll have to refresh the tokenomics on whether and how much I'll participate.

The no buy month is an interesting concept. I use to do this for a week, like do the shopping and then buy nothing and use everything that I got in the house. It is amazing how many meals you can make with what you have around, when you decide to not buy.
I had for this year 55k hive and 1200 hbd, but I already did the Hive, so next is 100K. we go big!
I discovered I could last nearly a week eating what was in the house before I ran out of fresh vegetables!

A day late for my report but here it is. Good week so far, increased HP by 164, LP by 398, and 44 added to HBD Savings.
Yet to do a No-Buy Month post but I've not been buying anything outside of our usual spending so it's all good in that regard.
It's been a while since I last watched a film by Jackie Chan and rewatching one of his old movies (Armour of God 3) cheers me up today :-)
This week was good as I got myself a week ahead of my goal on HP. I have a day here or there that is not 12+ hp so the extra helps to cover those days. I have enough liquid Hive that I am able to make sure I get my 3 HBD per day into savings. And speaking of Savings I hope everyone saw Edicted's post about HBD. You need to unvote every witness that is signalling anything less than 20% on HBD.

Very cool. We are in Chattaroy up the 2. We love the INW but really don't like Washington state politics. The 3 west coast states have the same problem of governance where the people from the sierras/cascades east have little to no say in the direction of the state. I grew up by Yosemite and that was the story for CA back in the 80s and is only worse now.
Very much understand. With our children born there and some remaining, my beloved wants us to go back. Me? Good grief, it has changed so much, from a political perspective ...
We lived out near the Idaho border, so we were sorta equidistant between Spokane and Couer d'Alene. Loved it, during that chapter of our lives. Many, many fond memories!
We had moved up from Tucson, Arizona. And we decided very quickly we much, much preferred living ~ 100 miles from Canada, than ~ 100 miles from Mexico. Hahaha ... 😉

Hiya savers!
This was another pretty good week of growth. I excceded all three of my weekly goals, and I also surpassed 6,300 HP at the beginning of the week. The hacking and disabling of @arcange's servers, which took a whole host of important services and servers offline, definitely made various things more challenging, and also stopped or severely slowed my growth in some assets. Even with that, though, it generally went well this week.
May the rest of this week be a brilliant one of building, growing, and saving, on our beloved badass bodacious Blockchain! Forward, onward, and upward, together!
