Hello Everyone,
It's Week 5 and 41 Savers! Yay!!
Did you power up on the 1 February? Five Savers did and left a link in a comment on last week's post. HSBIs on the way to: @arc-echo, @hoosie, @tydynrain, @jfang003 and @vaynard86.
If you powered up and made a post, remember to leave a link below for an HSBI sponsored by @shanibeer. Remember you can go for a double whammy by delegating part of your power-up to @eds-vote. You'll get EDS which bring HIVE which you can power up which you can delegate ... 🤑 😂
Exclusive SPI Sale
The exclusive SPI sale for Saturday Savers will start from the beginning of March. There are 300 SPI put aside for Saturday Savers Club members to buy through the year. More about that in a week or two.
February No-Buy Month
If you're new to the No-Buy idea, this is a great way to review your expenses and give a boost to your savings. You can make it as big or as small as you want. Maybe you want to pick a small goal, like taking packed lunches to work everyday if you normally eat out, and then putting aside the money you save. You could try it for a day, a week or the rest of February.
No-Buy is a little bit of a misnomer, Low-Buy might be better but it doesn't have quite the same dramatic effect! 😍 What No-Buy means is that you take more notice of what you are spending and look at how you can reduce it.
You can still buy essentials - food (😜), transport, replacements and repairs. You can also set a budget for treats or things that you know you want to buy like HIVE or LEO for power-ups.
It can be an opportunity to explore new things. For example, using your local library. Our libraries here have free wifi, spaces to work, huge electonic resources of free magazines and newspapers, audio and e-books. Maybe build in a trip to the library once a week as an alternative to going shopping.
How to do a No-Buy Month
Set a budget for the No-Buy period with rules about what you can and can't buy. This will be individual to each person - you might have birthdays or celebrations or events coming up that you need to build into your allowed expenses budget.
You might have some habits that you want to change - I like walking to my local shop, but you know, I may only need a loaf of bread but I will always come out with about £30 of shopping! When I started No-Buy months, I decided to tackle that habit!
Here's an example of a budget for February:
ALLOWED EXPENSES - what you can buy
- Food - but aiming to finish up packets, tins and jars in the pantry, food in the freezer and from the garden.
- Essential toiletries and housekeeping replacements.
- Essential repairs or replacements.
- Valentine's Day treat.
- 1 coffee/meal with friends each week.
- Postage and/or carriage.
- Travel or fuel.
NO-NO-BUY - definitely do not buy these!
- No shop-bought non-essential treats.
- No books, stationary, yarn, fabric or notions.
- No "new" (ie not replacements) clothes.
- No "new" (ie not replacements) furniture, household items, telecoms.
- No seeds or plants or houseplants or cut flowers.
You can set yourself a goal of how much you'd like to save during the month - maybe 10% of household expenses.
And that's it - before you know it, it's 1 March and you've a nice little nest egg put aside (could be your SPI budget - just sayin' 😂).
If you'd like to join in, write a comment or link a post with your plans for No-Buy February! HSBI for all linked posts sponsored by @shanibeer (maximum one per week)!

Hi Savers! I'd very much like to join your Saturday Savings Club 👋 🐝
Hi @shanibeer - here's the follow up to my comment. 😅
New to the Hive blockchain, so my primary and secondary 2024 goals may need to shift accordingly... but given that I'm starting prettty fresh 🌱 at 0.001 HIVE; 54.107 HP; 2.042 HBD; 0 HIVE - 15.568 HBD; $ 33.50... I'd like to aim for the following:
Primary goal: 100 HBD
Secondary goal: 100 EDSD
If this is too far-fetched, feel free to correct!
Wonderful! Welcome and I will add you to the Savers Chart next week 😍
Fabulous, thanks!! 💃
Welcome to the Saturday Savers Club @actaylor. Hope you find it helpful. Take care.
!ALIVE
@actaylor! You Are Alive so I just staked 0.1 $ALIVE to your account on behalf of @ justclickindiva. (9/10)

Great to see a new member of the Saturday Savers Club. Welcome! You will find a lot of useful information participating with this and other parts of the SPInvest family.
All the best, to you and yours, for a better tomorrow. Onward and upward!
Hi, dear savers!
First of all, congratulations to the winners! Keep pushing and doing your best!
I decided not to publish my monthly report of savings this year. I am simplifying my Hive tasks. Instead, I will write my evolution here in a comment every week.
Dates for this week:
Goal: 10000 HP
Total last week: 7785 HP
Added: 109 HP
Total this week: 7894 HP
To go: 2106 HP
Happy saving week! 🤗 !LUV !PIZZA
That sounds like a good idea 😍
I think it’s. We’ll see in a few months. 😊
Hi. Many thanks for the HSBI - its always appreciated !
I had a very good week this week, with a nice 210 HP gain. I also bought a few more DBOND and a couple of EDSD too. Full report here:
https://inleo.io/@hoosie/saturday-savers-club-progress-week-5-hpud-and-powered-up-210-hp
We are definitely doing a low-buy February in our house, after a rather expensive January. Key areas for us will be to not buy take-out or go out to eat, and I'll also be aiming to make lunch for work (2-3 days per week), rather than buying it when I'm at work.
I hope everyone has a great week and adds loads to their stacks !!!
Cheers @hoosie
It's interesting how much you can save by cooking at home. I like to have leftovers for lunch next day.
Aye, very true. We had a nice sunday roast today (whole chicken) and I've made nice roast chicken sandwiches for work tomorrow with some of the leftovers - I cant wait to have them already !
Oh, I'm jealous, I'm still living without a kitchen, can't remember the last roast I had!
Wow, a great increase in one week, congrats!
Many thanks - I was quite lucky this week with a few good post payouts, adn the price of HIVE really helped too !
Congrats to the winners, yay!
Thanks for the info about the SPI sale. At least we would not be wondering when it is going to happen hehe.
So the No-Buy month is up! Will be interesting how many of us will be saving something this month for not buying any unnecessary stuff :)
Anyhow, I participated in HPUD, and here is my post.
No report for Week 5 yet but I'm on track so far. Added to my HP & LP stakes and also to my HBD Savings.
All sounds fabulous! 😍
Thank you :)

Thank you for the EDS ! I completely forgot to go back to the previous thread and add the link to my HPUD post... d'oh !
Here's this week's update; https://inleo.io/@alonicus/saturday-savers-2024-progress-report-week-5
For no-buy February, it's an expensive month anyway - somehow I've got to get the car through an MOT, which could be an interesting and expensive event. So I'm automatically left with very little cash for luxuries.
We've also got a holiday planned, but I count that as part of watching our costs; it's the cheapest time of year to go, and it's our annual treat to cheer ourselves up for having got through Christmas and January periods when the weather is gloomy and we're mega-busy and stressed. We don't allow ourselves internet while we're away (even if the hotel connection is usable) so there will be one week where I skip a few days and catch up as soon as we get back 😀
What's an MOT?
It stands for Ministry of Transport test. Any car in the UK over three years old has to be tested annually, and it's a pretty comprehensive test to check that everything meets the legal requirements (lights, suspension, tyres, brakes, exhaust emissions, windows and windscreen wipers, and a whole host of other things).
The test itself isn't too expensive, but there are often things that are found during the test that need to be repaired to meet the requirements. That's the bit that can get expensive !
In a strange quirk of the rules, vehicles over 40 years old can apply for exemption from the MOT test as an historic vehicle. The logic is that if you've got a vehicle that old, it probably isn't used on a daily basis and you're probably an enthusiast who will keep it well maintained anyway.
Back in the 90s a friend of mine was driving a '67 Ford pickup. One day we broke down and a cop car pulled over and offered to push us with his car so that we could get off the main road and park on the side road.
He said, "OK, put your seatbelts on."
Friend: "Truck was made before seatbelts."
Cop: "Oh right okay then put your hazard lights on."
Friend: "Made before hazards."
Cop: "Huh. Well I guess that happens." 🤣
A holiday sounds fabulous 😍
You can link your HPUD post here (that's much easier for me to find).
Congratulations Saturday Savers Club on having 41 Saturday Savers so far!

Good morning friends, happy weekend to all. Thanks @eddie-earner, @susie-saver for the mention and for including me in the list of savers. Yesterday I posted my weekend update, where I included an adjustment to the secondary target. I am very happy to be part of this beautiful community, here I share with you my weekly update.

Hello dear @shanibeer, thank you for always being attentive. If you can do that I appreciate it, in fact I already made the adjustments in my publication setting the main goal at 670 HBD and my secondary goal at 600 Hive Power, so from there it only remains focus, discipline and perseverance.
Thanks for the support 👍
👍
I did power up on the 1st February and I made a post, here’s the link to it.

Thank you for your steady, consistent efforts to put this weekly post together @shanibeer. I know it takes a lot of work ... "under the hood." 🫡
Good morning 😍
No Buy months have been around as long as Saturday Savers Club. We did our first one in September 2020. Someone mentioned after last year's one how useful they had found it and it would have been good to do one earlier in the year. So we're trying that this year.
It came from reading about someone who was always saying she earned too little to save and then one year having a boost in her income (so, ostensibly, some disposable income) and still not saving anything. Her thoughts were that not saving was something to do with her relationship to money, to feelings of worth about herself, and to developing a better critique of the constant external messages and demands we receive to buy more and that your happiness and well-being is dependent on your consumption. I am very interested in the development process of learning to save, it's fascinating, and really important to have a supportive network around you.
Thanks for adding your goals here - I'll add them to next week's chart. I'm nearly up-to-date 😍
Excellent!
Yes, agreed. "Learning ..." It is sad how much lack of awareness and understanding there is these days of what used to simply be "common sense" ...
I hope there will be some nice reports at EOM, of the value experienced of those applying some of your list of recommendations!
P.S. Written by someone whose parents grew up in the Great Depression. Hmmm. I wonder what they told him ... 🙄😉
Okay, so you probably had the make do and mend legacy that we had in the UK after the 1939-1945 war. I grew up with you never threw anything away. It was either squirrelled away in a cupboard until it was needed or it was passed on to someone else to help them. My fridge has just broken down, I struggle with the idea that it needs replacing in nine years - I grew up with the idea that you buy things (white goods, furniture) once and they last a lifetime. I had my first electric sewing machine for 42 years and was annoyed then when it expired! I did have good use from it, though 😍
Yes, @shanibeer, that definitely captures the general idea. Here is a story, from my mother, which tells you all you need to know about my upbringing (in regard to our subject this morning):
Pretty close to the story I heard. More than once ... 😉
My grandmother, in turn, was the granddaughter of a Prussian military officer, who emigrated here in the 1850s and fought in our Civil War. While she passed in the '60s, my impressions of her linger still. Leaving me with no doubt as to whether or not my mother was ... "exaggerating" ...
I can believe it! I too was told I was cutting too much potato with the peel (although I didn't have to go back to the scrapings). I think @phoenixwren would enjoy this thread 😍
(Big smile here) ... You two ladies are a hoot! (@phoenixwren) Somehow we have "veered off course," from our focus on saving money to how deeply we cut into the uhhh ... "meat" ... of our vegetables!? 🙃
Oh wait! No! No, we didn't ... My dear mother is still amongst the living. And I can assure you right now, she is nodding in agreement ...
hahahaha. I legitimately didn't know potato peelers were a thing for many years. In our house, when we scraped carrots before eating, we didn't use a peeler, we used a serrated steak knife, so that way it only took the barest shaving where the dirt wouldn't wash off. xD
Hahahaha you better treat your beloved right! Don't get in trouble for being in the Saturday Savers Club! 😂
Yep. It is wise for me to remain on the right side of my beloved life mate! Tends to make the day go better ... 😉
Congrats! to ALL winners this week!!

Welcome @littlesorceress 😍 If you tell me your primary and secondary (if you have one) savings goal in a comment here, I'll add you to the Savers Chart next week. (If I missed you, I'm sorry, sometimes it's difficult to keep track of everyone).
You're welcome to join us every Saturday to tell us how you are getting on, or you can link a post in a comment, if you want to do that 🙂. That way we all support each other!
Glad you like the no-buy month! Will you join us?
Thank you very much! No problem, maybe I shared it in the wrong comment, in the end, we are humans behind the machines. I have only set a yearly goal and maybe I don't understand the weekly thing, is it one post per week? or can I do my reports as I feel necessary?
Anyway, I love the group and the plan, the final goal is 671.61 HBD.
The February challenge with no extra shopping seems like a great spot for me to work! Thank you so much for so much contention, I hope I am up to the challenge! Big hugs, I will write my report this Saturday.
Yes, you can do your reports whenever you wish 😍

Here's my entry for this week. Suddenly had a new goal, which was become an InLeo Lion 🤣. Well, you have to bend and flex!
@roleerob - forgive me, I couldn't find the comment with your goals. If you leave them in a response here, they'll be in the right place for me to find them when I update the Saves Chart next week.
Fabulous that we have 41 Savers already. So happy! ❤️
Ooh nice new goal, you're kicking a**!
Very encouraging to see, for you, I am sure! 👍
Thank you for your efforts to make it all possible! 🫡
Congratulations to all the winners and savers 🎉
I think there is a mistake with my secondary goal, which should be 200 HBD rather 500 HBD. The second would be great, although not very realistic considering my scarce activity 😉

5 HBD is good progress 😍
This project is very good and it is very nice to see people supporting it. We all should power up. It gives support to the project and also increases the chances of success in the future.
Any time you want to start saving, let me know your goals and I'll add you to the Savers Chart.
