This could be interpreted either as the deliberate trolling, a not so subtle attempt to help his once and future ally Trump, genuine belief that Russia's main enemy would be ruined under current leadership or simply's Putin's lack of comprehension of US politics.

It could be trolling, you are right. Impossible to know his motivation.
However, there is a logic to it. Biden is a typical Washington lifer which does means there is a predictability to what he does. Trump is more of a wild card, something that could make a guy like Putin a bit more nervous.
