Envy and disdain towards people that stand out for their material success is a very old and universal phenomenon, often more noticeable in smaller communities.

In Croatia one of the most despised and controversial figure is Mate Rimac, young entrepreneur who dedicated his life to building EVs. Even if we take into account notion that much of his wealth and success comes from hype and government subsidies or real possibility that he might end up like Elizabeth Holmes instead of Elon Musk, level of hatred he receives at social media is astonishing. At least for a person that invested his youth and energy into constructive hobby rather than money, booze and drugs like so many members of his generations.
