#historyonleo #onthisday On December 11th 1994 Russian president Boris Yeltsin orders Russian army to enter runaway region of Chechnya, starting the First Chechen War. The campaign, which revealed weakness and incompetence of Russian military, will become bloody and increasingly unpopular within Russian public and end with Khasavyurt Treaty in 1996, after which Russian federal forces retreated from Chechnya.
