We have an amazing blockchain
As some of you may know already, Punks have made it to Hive thanks to @themarkymark and his project @blockheadgames. I am still relatively new to the whole NFT scene, but I am super excited about this project.
The first NFTs that I ever bought were the Rare Ghost Club NFTs. They are cool and all, but dealing with OpenSea and the fees on Ethereum are ridiculous.
I ended up minting 10 of the ghosts, which should have only cost me 0.8 ETH to do, but with ETH gas fees, it was a lot closer to 1.3 ETH or so. It is hard to tell exactly how much I spent because I would also lose money sending ETH from one wallet to my MetaMask wallet.
The green ghost I got was pretty rare and according to their rarity tools, I could probably sell it for around 1.2 ETH, but I don't think people would pay that much for it quite yet. So I was going to list it for 1 ETH. To list something on OpenSea, you need to pay gas fees for that as well, which today, those gas fees were only 0.062935 ETH, or around $292 USD. The past week, I have seen gas fees of around 0.1 ETH, or almost $500 USD just to list.
The reason I am saying all of this is because what we have here on Hive, a lot of people take that for granted. Our block times are ridiculously fast and the big thing is that we have ZERO fees for transactions. We could essentially send 1 Hive back and forth between wallets a thousand times and at the end of that last transaction, we would still have 1 Hive.
That would be impossible on ETH. But what ETH has that we don't have is the userbase. We already have one of the biggest Dapps in crypto gaming with Splinterlands, and I think that once people realize what we have here, it will be huge.
Right now during HiveFest, the Punks are only 20 Hive to mint, so I went ahead and just minted two of them for now. I do have plans on minting some more once I get some more liquid funds in.
One of the Punks that I minted was this one above, which has a pretty high rarity score.
One really cool thing about Punks on Hive is that the rarity database is constantly being updated when new Punks are minted, since they are minted on the fly. So my Kiaan Punk continues to get more and more rare as other Punks are being minted.
This is the other Punk that I minted this morning. He isn't as rare as the other one, but he does have a pretty dope looking pipe.
I just got done listening to Marky talk about the Punks at the Hive Fest presentation and I am super excited for the future of this project. NFTs are bringing a lot of people into the crypto space and I really think that these Punks will do some good for the Hive community.
I saw the post before his talk and listened as well so was minting what I could. Got 10 but am waiting for the site to catch up and show me. Blockchain shows they are minted so I figure tomorrow I will have them showing. Stoked for this and another way to draw in more users.
Ya, I minted one more after this post and I am waiting for it to show up. I think it got overloaded with the hype today.
Best of all, your rare Punk came out according to your personality, it's a master smoker with red eyes that could light up a dark cave.

Ya, I m hoping no one else gets the lazer eyes. Hopefully my next Punk I got shows up soon. The site is struggling.
I believe you'll see more with laser eyes, but the woman with a cigarette is the rare combo there.
Edit: Oh it's not a woman, and yeah it looks like the laser eyes are way less common than I expected.
Dipping into OpenSea is a further reminder of how amazing Hive really is.

I think you really hit the jackpot with your mint, considering you only did two, great one!!! And I totally agree with your on the eth gas, they've really gone through the roof in the past month or so since i started dabbing into NFT, surely that's prohibiting transactions?

Ya. They can only issue on every three seconds and people are minting a lot. They will show up.

I got something in the middle. Saw them on the market like 100 hives. Now I want more 😄 and hoping to get something rarer.
"and I think that once people realize what we have here, it will be huge" -- i agree but my only real question to this is in the last few years, especially in the NFT why has this not been the case for people to realise this? outreach? marketing? promotion? where's the pain points. i got some great punks too!
