When Do Hivers Post And Vote The Most? | Dec 2022

in LeoFinance2 years ago (edited)

This is a topic I come back to, since it is quite interesting for users. Las time it was covered was March 2022. Let’s take a look has something changed.

Data about when Hiver’s post and vote/curate.

01.png

Having in mind Hive is a global community posting and voting time can vary a lot. Different time zones etc. Can users optimize their posting time, so they get some more attention?

Here we will be running the data for posting and voting time in parallel, so users can compare them. We will be looking at the hours, and at the days of the week, and combine them for a heat map.

We will be analyzing a four-week period, November 14 to December 11, 2022.

The time is in UTC. You can compare it with your local time zone here: https://time.is/UTC

Hours

First the hours. Let’s take a look what time of the day Hivers post and vote the most in the period.

image.png

Note again on the UTC time.

On the posting side we can see that there is a clear trend, where there is more posting between 14h to 17h UTC, with a peak somewhere around 15h. Overall there is more posting in the 12h to 22h period.
Between 4 and 8, there is the lowest number of posts. The drop from the peak hour (15h) with 6.6k post to the low hour (7), with 3.5k is 47%.

On the voting/curating side there is a similar pattern. Interesting there seems to be a peak at 22h that is not the case for posting.
For the off-peak hours there is slight sift and the voting decay earlier starting from 2h to 6h.

The data above is a sum of all the posts in these hours for the period analyzed.

Days Of The Week

Now that we have seen the hours data, lets take a look at the days of the week. What days of the week Hivers post and vote the most?

What days of the week Hivers post and vote the most?

03.PNG

A clear trend on the posts here. Monday and Tuesday are the days with the highest numbers of post, while the weekend not as much. Although the drop in the number of posts is not that big. From 12.5k to 11.5k. Less than 10%.

The voting shows a bit of a different pattern, with Sunday being the day with the highest numbers of votes. Saturday is on the low side. Maybe hivers want just to read and curate on Sunday. As for the posts, the difference in the numbers is not that big.

Heatmap

Combing the days and hours and we get the heat map.
First the posts:

05.PNG

We can see that the start of the week between 14h and 17h is quite busy. Overall, the 14h to 18h are having more posts, same as from the hours chart. The 5 to 8 period is quieter.

The votes heatmap** looks like this.

04.PNG

Again, vote seems more random than post. Some spikes happening randomly between hours and days. Although there is more activity in the period as for the posts, that is 13h to 22h. Again, Sunday looks busier for voting then Saturday. Between 2h and 7h is obviously quieter for voting as well.

Here are the two heat maps.

06.PNG

These are a bit smaller, but we can still do some comparison.
Posts have more consistent pattern than votes. Voting seems a bit more random, although we can still see that the general pattern applies here as well, with more activity in the 14h to 18h and lot less in the 2h to 7h.
Sunday being the day with the more difference, with more votes than posts.
This trends seems to be quite consistent for years.

All the best

Excellent set of data! Very useful information.

Glad it is helpful

Pretty wild to see such a big gap from posting to voting. This is actully really important information though and I'm going to try and target just before or on those hours and see how it goes twice a day.

Good luck :)

Me? I usually post in the afternoon where my son is asleep as I can write a blog without any disturbances. Then I usually upvote and read other articles at night when both my husband and son is asleep.

Yea we usualy do it when our time window allows it ... but it seem more users are alligned :)

This is very extraordinary and important information data for hivers in Indonesia. So we can adjust the posting time accordingly. Thank you for the information.

Sunday being the day with the more difference, with more votes than posts.
This trends seems to be quite consistent for years.

It means posting on Sunday is likely to bring more rewards.

Quite helpful data it is. Thanks for the efforts

In theory, yes

!LOLZ. you mean in practice the result wouldn't be as expected?

Just curious, where do you see the raw data?

I just want to verify something :)

I use HiveSQL .... hivesql.io

Brilliant work.
This is very helpful data.
The visualisation too is impressive.

Bravo

That gives a clear insight on users...but users like me keep hooked all the time...I do not have specific time...so I might be in every bit of it.

what is striking to me is how tiny the numbers for posts are. Hive has very few content creators unfortunately

Wait till the bears leave.

I am also shocked that the number is not high. !PIZZA

Always has been .... although here are posts only

Do you have some data on Splinterlands users and average players earnings? Would be pretty resourceful for my coverages.

About this post, what I see is how hivers really behave like bees, there's quite the unison on when contents are created and curated regardless of locations.

This data and analysis is very true for me. Considering the UTC time, there's a certain time of the day you post and possibly would get less attention and the time you would post and earn more attention and this data says it all .
Posting at the universal time when the world is not in active work hours means more.

This is really interesting and can give insight into Hive demographics. Just wondering, why does the sum of the hourly votes over the 7 days not tally with the hourly votes in the in the first chart. I was looking at 17 and 22 hours.

thansk

It should be the same ... I'll double check

I just checked, the sum of the votes from the weeks is matching the first chart.
Can you give an exact example where you found this?

This is the tally for those two hours for 7 days but don't reconcile back to the first chart. Thanks

Oh wow, you are right ....I checked and in my file the numbers were as yours above.
Thing is the first chart uploaded here is an older version.

Here is a direct screenshot from my file, I will upload it now.

Basically I have uploaded a older version in the post.
Thanks for the check, and sorry for your time doing the manual math above :)

That's not a problem, at least you know people are actually interested in using your data 😉

Btw, it seems you've cut off the bottom line of data in your updated image in the post

Thanks for doing this. I wish I knew programming 😄

This is amazing data. Thanks for providing this sir!

I often wondered this myself. Nice work.

I read your complete posts. I think your suggestions is very good for hive users and hive content creators. I write mostly posts in night. This data is very useful. Thanks for sharing this valuable article.

Very informative stats. It's interesting that there are only less than 13k daily posters. Although it's great that over a million accounts are curating on a daily basis.

So much to digest. This is why this community is great. We got the data and we will try to understand it.

Indeed very helpful one for newbies as they need to learn about the right time of publishing post. Thanks for the good share. Have a good day!

Great post and interesting data!

I have a theory: people are partying on Saturday and are too hungover on Sunday to create posts and just curate while recovering.

Posted Using LeoFinance Beta

Good theory :)

😄 Thanks!

When you say "post", are you including videos and pictures published on Liketu?

Posted Using LeoFinance Beta

Interesting! I never thought of this from this angle because I post when I have the time though.
I give kudos to how you took time to analyze this data.

Each social network has its own posting schedule, to know it its so important; great to know that Hive has it too. Super helpful post!!!

Stats are excellent. I think when the value of crypto rises, you see a lot more content creators !

So I guess when determining the best time to post one might look at when the ratio of voters to posters is highest. Another bit of useful info might be when the most hive power is voting vs. just raw number of votes.

Hey @dalz ,
Is it possible to provide the data in excel ?

Very good information !
Thank you

This is interesting data and you have done hard work to make it. Well I am amazed to see monday is the most active day for hivers, I thought it should be sunday. One more thing I got to know that it's evening time in india when hive people share posts most.

Consistency is good and rewarding. This is why I mostly make at least one post per day. Sometimes I miss one or more days. Sometimes I post more than one post per day. But I am regularly active on the Hive blockchain. Both with posting, and with curating/commenting too. My current plan is to do this in long term (for years and for decades).

This is very useful information so we can interpret at what time is better to post if we want more visibility

Just came across this post due to Discord! That's in fact pretty useful! It's over a year - but pretty sure it stood the same.

Thank you very much!
